Tatler
ith the rush to escape to the second city we certainly made terrible gaffes last week. Thanks to our many readers who not only took time out to call but to even send faxes. Lots of Tatler to you all. Our photo ought to have shown Chris Tucker and not Chris Rock. And Sean Connery was indeed the first James Bond.
Well the second city was certainly buzzing what with folks jetting in for Sashi as well as Antoinette’s wedding. The lobby of the Ritz Carlton had a creative mix and the banquet certainly was a blender. Poverty continues to suck and was clearly understood as the Dutch Auction started in earnest at the Sashi Awards Banquet. The Indian community was out and the Sashi crew sparkled in platinum and diamonds.
Steven Seagal seems to have lost his popularity and needs to understand that Jamaicans are really not star struck. The banquet was really just that with clearly no cutting costs included in the mix were we not after all at The Ritz. Papa San was in evangelistic form and Della Manley and Seretse Small really gave (excuse the repetition) a platinum performance. Shabba was in the mix stirring up the Dutch Auction for the Sir John Golding Centre. The folks from the centre were also out in full and included McNeish – CEO as well as Lady Golding. Special guests included Jennifer M Smith – premier of Bermuda with her chief of staff Senator Lieutenant Colonel David A Birch.
Other interesting bystanders included a fab looking Dominique Peterkin and hubby Horace who celebrate 4 years of marriage on August 30. Marcia Forbes and drop dead gorgeous son Richard Delano Forbes, back in Jamaica ladies after graduating from NYU. Mary Helen Reese, Verona Carter was absolutely stunning. Mr and Mrs Ian Dear, The Island Outpost posse, and Sly and Robby and Bounty Killer’s PR Julian Jones Griffith.
Several awards were handed out at the end of the evening to Sheryl Lee Ralph, Chris Blackwell, Steven Segal, Sly and Robbie and Louise Frazer -Benett.
Other news this week includes the caterer who wants more upkeep from her ex. Her ex in the interim wants a second chance. The brew continues to thicken.
And just when we thought the excitement was about to end the very rich Indians and overseas Lebanons are preparing to dazzle us. Come September 22 all roads will lead to Stella Maris and then to Strawberry Hill (the entire hotel has been bought for a week perhaps) the civil wedding has already taken place – wait for it two years ago but it’s difficult to co-ordinate the wealth, the homes, the family and the business. Homes are after all scattered in three continents. Here’s to Shalina and Maurice. Let’s hope some of the wealthy guests invest in Jamaica. We gather suitable families have already started to dust off their daughters. The possibilities are indeed endless.
A Bientot!
PS Two thumbs up to the charming and professional Terry Ann Arnold of Air Jamaica Express. What service? We need to clone her and send her to many a company around town.
