Celebrities perform for charity
President of the National Democratic Movement Hyacinth Bennett, Ambassador Madge Barrett, Jean Anderson and Carol Francis were among the ‘powerful’women who performed for charity, on Sunday, May 5 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
The concert, dubbed Powerful Women Perform For Charity, for the second year in a row, drew a large audience, and saw performances in song, dance and drama from prominent Jamaican women.
The event was held in aid of Mustard Seed Communities Home for Children with HIV/AIDS located in Jerusalem, St Catherine.
Bennett, whose item was a medley of spirituals suitable for any praise and worship service at church, got the crowd going with her item. But it was pandemonium when she drew for the popular By the Rivers of Babylon . Her “Pull Up” drew lots of cheers and endeared the crowd to her even more.
Jean Anderson dressed retro for her item, Millie Small’s My Boy Lollipop, with a lollipop in hand to boot while ambassador Madge Barrett was both Diana Ross and Luther Vandross in her two-faced lip sync of My Endless Love.
“Dancehall Queen” Carol Francis was pleasing as she did the moves in the company of Excellence Dancers, while Maxine Henry-Wilson was true to form, a politician dealing with constituents on an every day basis.
Other performers included former first lady Beverly Anderson-Manley, PRO Managing Director Jean Lowrie-Chin, Fame personality Norma Brown-Bell, Director of Tourism Fay Pickersgill as well as Fair Trading Commission’s Barbara Lee.
