Walking Ivy
JAMAICA’S fabulous 60-year-olds lend credence to the belief that 60 is the new 40-something, and we have at all woman gustily applauded all that’s fabulous about them.
That was until Saturday last, when we sat and watched Ivy Cameron enjoying a day at Nirvana Day Spa. There was her smooth skin, an elegant disposition and that certain je ne sais quoi. We watched in fascination as she relaxed and soaked up the good life, her feet and hands ‘mittened’ up for her paraffin treatment. We figured her to be about 70. We were completely wrong. Ivy Cameron, a self-taught dressmaker, was born on April 3, 1916 in Port Antonio. That makes her 90.
Her beauty secrets:
“I live a stress-free life. Fact is, I’ve never been married and have no biological children but I do have several children and grandchildren.”
Pears soap is what Ivy uses on her face and her diet consists of lots of fruits with mango being her favourite.
“I’m hypertensive,” shares Ivy, “but I’m under doctor’s care.” That she is. Walking is a regular routine. “My doctor refers to me as Ivy Walker. because of how much walking I do.
As Ivy prepares for her next birthday (all woman will be there to help blow out all 91 candles), Nirvana Spa director Gaudia Aquart wants her skin to really glow, and as such has suggested two intense moisture treatments for Ivy Cameron to apply to her face after washing with Pears soap. “Moisture is very important,” Aquart shares with all woman. “And as we age, our skin demands lots more moisture.” Her suggestions for Ivy Cameron.
Biogenesis extra rich night cream with antioxidants and Biogenesis Nourishing Mask for Dry Dehydrated Skin with antioxidants.
Women of a certain age and looking equally fabulous are no strangers to Nirvana. “Beauty regimes are certainly not age- specific. There is absolutely no reason for women to stop taking care of themselves because they are no longer part of the ‘official’ work force or at a particular age,” explains Aquart. “Beauty regimes ought to commence as early as possible and become a way of life,” she continues. We concur. So here are some suggestions for your favourite relative.
j Paraffin treatments are an excellent way to restore and retain moisture. Ivy uses her hands to sew and her feet to walk so regular paraffin treatments will afford her softer feet and hands.
j Additional moisture treatments for her face affords glow and suppleness.
j Massages (Ivy had a full body massage) keeps the joints supple and is a great way to correctly ‘stretch’ the body.
j Hair care ought to be another major consideration. Ivy sports a low ‘fro which according to the experts at Chic-Lines should be trimmed every six weeks and a deep-moisture treatment applied at least once a month.
