Shenna at Ammar’s for FNO
Emerging as queen bee (and eventual Season One champ) of the runaway reality TV hit Mission Catwalk, Shenna Carby’s fashion smarts, so loved by viewers during the 13-episode run of the show, will be available for shoppers visiting Ammar’s in the Mall and Village Plazas this Thursday, September 8 — when the Jamaica OBSERVER CELEBRATES FASHION’S NIGHT OUT (FNO). When AW managed to snatch a moment with the busy Carby, (who’s still hard at work completing the pieces she’ll debut in-store for FNO), the designer shared that she will be showcasing a mixture of styles ranging “from rompers, to long, relaxed dresses and tops”. “I’m working with cotton fabrics,” Carby revealed, “and I’ll also be doing animal and abstract prints.”
She also shared that her pieces will not only target slim ladies. “I’m doing small dresses but I’ll also be creating fitted dresses for larger women as well.” The self-taught fashion dynamo is eagerly awaiting Thursday night and told us: “I’m excited… I appreciate the fact that people can come in and pick up my clothes and buy them.” Also excited about hosting Carby and FNO is Michael Ammar, Jr, director of the 40-year old family-owned clothing franchise. “It’s a great opportunity for both her and us,” he noted. “She needs to break into the big market which we serve and her fashion is very popular so she will attract interest.” As for his own expectations on the night, Ammar raved “there’s no bigger night for us than FNO and we’re expecting it to be as big, if not even bigger than last year.”
