VOWS: Best of 2012 Part II

Your Vows team shares the final nominees for Best Wedding Dress of 2012.

JODI ‘JINX’ STEWART-HENRIQUES — RETV VJ Perhaps one of the most anticipated nuptials last year was that of Jodi ‘Jinx’ Stewart and Jamaican dancehall and reggae artiste Sean Paul Henriques. The couple tied the knot on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Boone Hall Oasis. The bride looked absolutely stunning in a couture gown — this one was in fact the 16th gown she tried on. The sight of her mum and sister in tears convinced her that this was the perfect choice. With a bodice of raised lace pattern, a custom diamante belt (sewn on by the bride) and multiple strips of chiffon gathered to portray a princess look, the gown made a formidable statement.

YANIQUE POWELL-GREEN — Junior Architect and Designer at Clifton Yap Architects We adored the modern-day fairy tale of Yanique Powell and her prince charming Omoi Green, investment banker at NCB Capital Markets. The couple opted for a traditional ceremony at the University Chapel on August 5, 2012, officiated by Dr Eric Nathan. Yanique wore a pearl white chiffon fitto- flare gown with flattering ruching. The dress was embellished with flowers, crystals and pearls. The Salon Innovation team handled her hair and make-up, while Kimberly Patterson did her bridal party’s make-up.

LIANNA MARIE WONGMCKENZIE, Senior Graphic Designer at Deskey Associates Jason John McKenzie, electrical field engineer at Bechtel Corporation, wed Lianna Marie Wong at Sts Peter and Paul Church on Saturday, June 9, 2012. The wedding was catered by ace cake consultant Selena Wong, who also happens to be Lianna’s mum. The bride wore a strapless gown with silver detailing around the waist by La Sposa Bridal. Her make-up was skilfully applied by Nicki Quallo and her hair was styled by Carolyn Wong Sam.

MISTY BROWN, Critical Care Registered Nurse, Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital, USA Misty Dawn Hubbard wed Dr Desmon Antonio Brown, oral and maxillofacial surgeon, attending physician and assistant professor at Indiana University, on June 23, 2012 at Secrets Wild Orchid, Montego Bay. The bride wore a white strapless gown from Romona Keveza’s 2012 collection Legends. She also wore delicately applied make-up by Paul March, which complemented her tasteful updo by Jozie Douglas of Jozie’s Hair Salon.

PETRINA RENNIE-JAGGON, Psychologist Petrina Monique Rennie — daughter of the late Captain Peter Rennie of the Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing, and Ingrid Rennie-Anderson, educator and retired business executive — exchanged vows with Captain Richard Jaggon — son of school Principal Isaac Jaggon and business executive Daphne Jaggon — on November 17, 2012 at the University Chapel, Mona. Petrina certainly turned heads when she walked up the aisle in a strapless gown with sequinned embellishments and a traditional train some three feet in length. She wore her hair in a sleek bun, which was covered by a long, delicate veil. Her bouquet, composed of white Casablanca lilies and roses, was created by Frances Angus.

ROSHAL LEIGH ERSKINE-MARSHALL, Attorney-at-law Roshal Leigh Erskine — daughter of noted communications consultant Marcia Erskine and attorney-atlaw Michael Erskine — wed Dr Zwade Marshall — son of entrepreneur Hazel Marshall and quantity surveyor Clairmont Marshall— on December 8, 2012 at Half Moon Resort, Montego Bay, before some 200 guests. The bride looked absolutely stunning in “Willow” from designer Jenny Packham’s 2012 collection. The ivorycoloured gown featured dramatic beading along the bodice, a sheer low back, V-neckline, with delicately beaded sheer cap sleeves. From a jewelled belt, the draped chiffon skirt cascades into a short train. The bouquet of white roses and orchids was created by Ann Marie Wyss. Roshal Leigh Erskine’s glam squad included Loni Jones who applied the bride’s make-up and Wayne Maxwell who created the bride’s gorgeous hairstyle.

DR SIMARTA BRENNAN-PRESCOD Dr Simarta Brennan wed Barbadian Samuel Prescod at St Margaret’s Church, Liguanea, on March 24. She stunned in an elegant Maggie Sottero gown with a cascading train and accompanying veil. Her flawless make-up was applied by Sharon Wint-Levy of Face Forward.

SAKEENA DAMMAR Sakeena (centre) opted for a traditional Hindu ceremony with her groom Dhiraagh Dammar at the Wyndham Kingston hotel in June. Naturally, the bride made her grand entrance in a stunning red sequinned bridal lengha.
