What’s Trending for 2013 – REVE Jewellery

Our local brands are, that’s what! Part 4

— Meet six collectors!

Name: Cherine Anderson

Occupation: Singer and Actress

The pieces I’m wearing are… The Sun-Dial earrings. They’re inspired by nature and time, and I thought they were fitting for the new expansion of my musical sound. So I wore it for my Haffi Come Back photo shoot. I am wearing the Queen Ring by RÊVE during the photo shoot. It helps to bring out that independent, fierce, dancehall soul-rebel chick in me. To me the ring represents strength, individuality, and I love that its abstract shape looks like that of the African continent. The Pyramid earrings are so fierce. When I saw these, I knew I had to have them for my video. They are truly dynamic. They are definitely a statement piece.

I support RÊVE because… it’s a very unique brand that is sophisticated and allows a rebel like me to make a bold statement. I love that every piece of jewellery is different, so much creativity is put into each piece — it’s like Duane is inside the heads of the people who are wearing it. The pieces are hot!

I purchased my first piece… about four years ago. It was a charm bracelet and earrings set called Child’s Play inspired by colours and all the things we use as children — like crayons, pencils, sharpeners, eraser etc.

Name: Heidi Thwaites-Pyne

Occupation: Director of Party Pyne

I’m wearing… a ring from the Journey collection which were inspired by shells in Europe; the Ali Cuff which was recently featured on America’s Next Top Model; Trojan earrings which are made from a lightweight non-precious metal; Rose Box ring which is made from copper, sterling silver and rose quarts — which I’m told attracts love — and a necklace. The pendant from the necklace was originally on a wind chime I owned which unfortunately broke. Duane saw the beauty in the piece and suggested that it could be made into a necklace — this piece truly means a lot to me.

My love affair with RÊVE began…many years ago.

I support the brand because… I find that their pieces are unique. To be really honest, I can’t really afford to buy a lot of art for my home and when I wear my RÊVE pieces I feel like I am wearing art. So for me, buying from RÊVE is a wonderful way to support the Jamaican art industry.

I have… about 12 pieces from RÊVE.

My favourite is… the Rose Box ring. It is a beautiful piece and I love wearing it. I think that Duane is God-blessed with his artistic talents and really puts his all into each piece, much like this gorgeous Rose Box ring that I adore so much.

Name: Gianna Fakhourie

Occupation: Model

I’m wearing… Chilli Pepper necklace and rooster ring made from red coral. I also rocked the Whirl Wind necklace and earrings for the shoot because I had such a hard time choosing. There is actually a funny story behind the creation of my rooster ring. I accidentally broke a piece of my Chilli Pepper necklace and rather than having it repaired, Duane suggested that I create another piece. So he took the broken coral and made this fantastic ring. I love it so much!

My love affair with RÊVE began… many years ago. I think it was in 2007.

I support the brand because… I love that anything I buy is the only one of its kind in the world. I like that I’ll never go somewhere and see someone in the pieces that I am wearing from RÊVE. They are one of a kind, like me.

I have… a LOT of pieces from RÊVE! I think I have about 16 pieces from them.

My favourite is… the Aphrodite necklace. I like it because of the size of the African Jasper. I think the piece is truly impressive.

Name: Dr Jean Small

Occupation: Linguist and Actress

I’m wearing… the Dream Catcher collection. The earrings are made from red coral and brass.

My love affair with RÊVE began… in early 2007.

I support the brand because… I love how creative the designs are and the material used to make them. Each piece is very original and unique.

I have… purchased countless pieces over the years.

My favourite is… my red coral earrings. They are always a conversation piece when I wear them.

Name: Natalie Barnes

Occupation: Entrepreneur

I’m wearing… the Ali Cuff and Afro-centric earrings.

My love affair with RÊVE began… when I saw their booth at Calabash in 2006 or 2008 — I’m not quite sure. They had beautiful shell earrings on sale. They were so delicate and had beautiful gold detailing. I collect shells, so I was immediately drawn to these earrings. After that, I started seeing more and more of their pieces everywhere. I also got to know Duane and Teasea and we quickly became friends. So now, it’s almost like a race for me to get pieces from each of their new collections.

I support the brand because…. every piece is different. Also as an artist, their store is a very exciting space to be in. This is my happy place. They create what I like to call ‘feel-good jewellery’.

I have… about 12 pieces from the store.

My favourite is… The Ali Cuff. I think it works well with everything I own. I love that it is hand-made. I also like that, though it is a signature RÊVE piece, no two Ali Cuffs are the same.

Name: Natalie Parboosingh

Occupation: Television producer

I’m wearing… Armor necklace, which is made from brass, hemp cord and African beads.

My love affair with RÊVE began… in 2007 or 2006.

I support the brand because… of the original design of each piece. I also think their work is very creative and of superior quality. Buying from RÊVE is a great way to support artists locally and regionally.

I have… about five pieces from RÊVE. But I must admit I purchase them mainly as gifts for my friends abroad. I think their work is of superior quality and as such are great representations of brand Jamaica. So I have purchased 10 or more of their pieces as gifts for my friends so far.

My favourite is…well, I don’t really have a favourite. But what I do love are their earrings. I find that they are very functional because of how adjustable they are.
