Whats Trending for 2013? – Juliette Dyke — For Julan

Our local brands are, that’s what!

Cue the fanfare

Six talented, gorgeously styled women proudly sashay across De Gap in their favourite Julan creation. Some owned from a designer’s sketch, others off the rack, but all in accord with the fact that Juliette Dyke for Julan represents a chic, sophisticated, playful, trendy and unique woman — a local brand that’s not only trending for 2013, but is also stitched with global appeal.

Name: Molanda Beersingh-Bennett

Occupation: Owner of Taylor’d 4 Babies

I’m wearing…

a pink racerback wrap dress.

My love affair with the brand started…

when Juliette was in design school. I was excited by even the sketches she did.

I support the brand because…

her designs are unique, bold and exciting. She does amazingly well with combining colours and fabric. I feel sexy and sophisticated when I wear a piece by Julan.

I have…

nine pieces by Julan.

My favourite is…

the Alexandra, which I have in pink. Absolutely stunning!

Name: Racquel O’Donnell

Occupation: Master’s student

I’m wearing…

a pink and brown suede Julan piece.

My love affair with the brand started…

at the launch of Julan at Red Bones about four years ago. I really liked the rich and colourful fabrics she used and how sleek, chic and unique her pieces were.

I support the brand because…

her pieces are extremely well made and can be customised for any occasion. The ability to play the different fabrics, patterns and to make it look amazing is what I love about this brand. I am yet to wear a Julan piece and not get a ton of compliments wherever I go.

I have…

about seven pieces.

My favourite is…

hard to choose.

Dressy – I really love a long, silk dress she made for me to wear to a wedding. The stunning gown was made from brown silk taffeta, yellow organza and a blue silk print. I might have received just as many compliments as the bride.

Casual – Another custom piece she made for my honeymoon, which has mixed patterns, is long and flowy.

Name: Ruth Straw

Occupation: Director of De Gap

I’m wearing…

a black and white, one shoulder asymmetrical dress with pink trimming.

My love affair with the brand started…

after the launch in 2008, five years ago. I called her up and told her I would love to acquire the silk and bronze dress that one of the models wore which was spectaclar. I wore it to a wedding the following week-December 19, 2008.

I support the brand because…

I love the brand and am an ardent supporter of local designers. Juliette’s designs are unique, edgy and absolutely stunning.

I have…

ten pieces and adding. I do carry most of her gorgeous pieces at De Gap located in the Wyndham lobby.

My favourite is…

I love them all. My favourite is what I am wearing now, which I acquired in December and wore to my Jamaica Christmas party. Her designs are simply the best.

Name: Laila Bennett

Occupation: Flight Attendant, Caribbean Airlines

I’m wearing…

Painterly print halter dress.

My love affair with the brand started…

when Juliette was still in fashion school. She showed me her designs and I fell in love with them all. I had to have a piece from her very first collection.

I support the brand because…

her designs are one of a kind, extremely comfortable and easy to dress up or down.

I have…

collected over the years 10 pieces and one in waiting.

My favourite is…

hmmm…very hard to decide, but I must say the piece I am wearing.

Name: Ruth Chisholm

Occupation: Programme Manager & Communication Specialist

I’m wearing…

the tulip-inspired Bohemian.

My love affair with the brand started…

at her booth at Caribbean Fashion Week. Designs by Julan had not yet been featured on the runway. I was browsing the booths and fell in love with the dress. I searched the entire expo until I found Juliette. That was the summer of 2008.

I support the brand because…

it is original, bold, fearless and enduring.

I have…

stopped counting when I got to 19 pieces. Yes, I love Julan.

My favourite is…

too many. But now I’m wearing one of her first pieces, a Julan original.

Name: Carolyn Bolt

Occupation: Senior executive assistant, Supreme Ventures

I’m wearing…

the Alexandra dress.

My love affair with the brand started…

before she even had a brand. I was cheerleading from she started school, studying fashion designing.

I support the brand because…

I admire her designs because I think she is talented and her pieces are both wearable and unique.

I have…

the one I’m wearing, a Chinese-inspired mini-dress and a couple jersey easy pieces.

My favourite is…

the Alexandra by far. It is absolutely elegant and edgy at the same time.
