What’s trending for 2013? – Designs by Kristina Broderick

Our local brands are, that’s what!

Jewellery designer Kristina Broderick for Kristina Broderick jewellery is our designer in the spotlight this week as we continue to share the talents of our local designers.

Name: Suzanne Rousseau-Bernard

Occupation: Entrepreneur

I’m wearing… the square copper earrings.

My love affair with Kristina Broderick jewellery began… a few years ago. Actually, I saw her stuff on display once when I was leaving Shakti. They had a trunk show of sorts, and she had all of her things on display there. I’m thinking this was at least three to four years ago. The stuff was amazing, and I literally bought two or three earrings immediately. I mean, on walking out the door! I took her card and I remembered thinking to myself that it was so original and so creative how she had used the different metals. I found her designs very inspirational. I like very bold, chunky and graphic jewellery. I’m not really a fan of small jewellery. So, that really appealed to me.

I support the brand because… I support the brand because I think her designs are very bold and I like the geometric shapes and textures. I like how creative she is and the way she is able to work with different metals.

I have… five or six pieces.

My favourite is… the black leather cuff with studded silver.

Name: Marcette Mcleggon

Occupation: Bank Officer

I’m wearing… the copper hammered, a copper ring and a gold bracelet cuff with purple agate stone.

My love affair with Kristina Broderick jewellery began… when I went to one of her shows. I was immediately drawn to her pieces. They looked very unique and artsy, so when I found out they were handmade locally I was very impressed. I bought my first piece then, and since that first buy I’ve been adding to my collection.

I support the brand because… I think she is very talented, pays attention to detail and is able to design anything you can describe.

I have… four pieces

My favourite is… the ones I’m wearing.

Name: Simone Bowie-Jones

Occupation: Attorney-at-law

I’m wearing… a copper necklace and matching bracelet cuff.

My love affair with Kristina Broderick jewellery began… the first time I saw her jewellery at least four years ago. I saw a friend with a piece and I became very interested in her designs, so I later attended the opening of her store. Afterwards I asked her to make my wedding band for me which was perfect for my wedding day.

I support the brand because… Kristina’s pieces are breathtakingly beautiful, unique and extremely well made.

I have… eight pieces.

My favourite is… a gold necklace with turquoise agate stones.

Name: Alecia Aleong

Occupation: Interior Designer

I’m wearing… the frosted ring and earrings from the Crushed Collection.

My love affair with Kristina Broderick jewellery began… whenever I would go out I would see mutual friends wearing her jewellery. After awhile I was finally introduced to her because we do boot camp together. I started buying her pieces after that. I bought my first piece last year.

I support the brand because… I’m all about design and seeing women live their dreams and do what they love. I also like the fact that she can do things for me that I like. I actually asked her to build a ring for me and I really liked how it came out. It’s really cool knowing and hanging out with the person who made the jewellery you wear.

I have… five to six pieces

My favourite is… a pair of rose gold hoops I bought from her.

Name: Tanya Shirley

Occupation: Poet and Educator

I’m wearing… a heavy leather necklace and hammered earrings.

My love affair with Kristina Broderick jewellery began… in 2009 at Market On The Lawn. I had seen people wearing her pieces before and at Market on the Lawn I went over and introduced myself and told her I had to have one of her pieces. I have been supporting her ever since.

I support the brand because… I like her artistry and craftsmanship. I like the shape of the pieces and the clean lines. I also think she is a wonderful person and that’s why I support the brand.

I have… five pieces.

My favourite is… the hammered earrings I’m wearing.

Name: Kristine Miller

Occupation: Attorney-at-law

I’m wearing… a jade, layered necklace.

My love affair with Kristina Broderick jewellery began… about two years ago. I commissioned her to make my wedding band and she made it for me and it was great. She also managed to do so in a very short period.

I support the brand because… I support anything Jamaican. It’s even better that her stuff is so beautiful. There are some people who can design but cannot receive a descriptive instruction and carry through to the end. Kristina is able to do this, producing the end product just the way it was described. Her stuff is beautiful and I like the range of material she uses from precious gold to wood.

I have… seven pieces

My favourite is… The jade piece I’m wearing for aesthetics but my wedding band for sentimental reasons.

Name: Roxanne Shields

Occupation: Cosmetologist

I’m wearing… a necklace from the Stoned Collection made of brazilian agate and 14-karat gold.

My love affair with Kristina Broderick jewellery began… in 2007 when she first moved back to Jamaica.

I support the brand because… well, I was actually Kristina’s very first customer when she returned to Jamaica and I have been supporting her ever since. Her designs are unique, the jewellery is very well crafted, and she’s an extremely talented artisan.

I have… at least 30 pieces and counting.

My favourite is… my 14-karat gold and wooden ring and pendant from her ‘Portland Collection’, which was my first purchase.
