Vows: Bliss At Sunset
Camesha Reid, personal portfolio advisor at Jamaica Money Market Brokers Ltd, wed the love of her life, Sean Curtis, a medical doctor at the Mandeville Regional Hospital, at Sunset at the Palms Resort on October 15, 2012. Vows shares their love story…
It was a mutual friend — her family doctor, to be exact — who introduced the pair at a corporate function. They struck up a conversation and on realising they shared similar interests exchanged details. A friendship soon blossomed, and they began spending time together. In a few months it progressed into a relationship, and Sean and Camesha were almost inseparable. Their union later produced a beautiful daughter.
Nine years later, Sean decided that not another year would pass without him making her his bride, and devised a plan to ask for her hand in marriage that Christmas. It was a cool evening. He stopped by for his usual after-work visit and asked Camesha to join him under the gazebo outside. While there, he put on some soothing tunes, sat with her and embraced her tightly. Unsuspecting, Camesha enjoyed the ambience, closing her eyes to revel in the moment. Sean used the opportunity to fetch a large gift box which he presented to her, and she believed it to be an early Christmas gift. He asked her to open it, and when she did, she found a medium-sized box inside. Opening that would reveal another box, and then another box, this time with a stunning white gold and diamond engagement ring inside. Sean then slipped it onto Camesha’s finger and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. With tear-filled eyes, she whispered “Yes, I will.”
They had a quiet wedding on the beach at Sunset at the Palms, Negril, witnessed by their immediate family, and officiated by Pastor Charles Blythe, with Reverend Gifton Wallace as the master of ceremonies. The bridal party made their entrance to the sounds of Pachelbel — Canon In D Major, with the flower girl, the couple’s daughter Janae, walking up the aisle to Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World. The bride’s father followed, escorting her up the aisle to meet her groom, to the strains of John Denver’s For You, chosen by her husband-to-be. She was resplendent in an Alfred Angelo mermaid-hem gown with Swarovski crystals embellished on the bodice and waist, while her groom was dapper in a Joseph & Feiss tuxedo from the Men’s Wearhouse.
It was a beautiful wedding. They performed a water ceremony with blue and yellow colours, blended to create green — a symbol of peace, prosperity and wealth in their union. The ceremony was followed by cocktails in the garden where a slideshow of the newly-weds highlighting all their major milestones together, was shown. The cocktail hour also featured a photo booth where guests could take instant photos. For the bride and groom, the most memorable moment was a passionate post-ceremony kiss shared on the beach while the sun set in the distance… one they described as “pure bliss”.
The reception followed at the resort’s Lotus Leaf restaurant, where their seaside paradise — theme, comprising roses and seashells accentuated with blue and yellow hues — was executed by wedding decorator Chantal of Floral Fantasy in Negril. Laughter abounded throughout as Sean and Camesha relished their first moments together as husband and wife. Anne Murray’s Could I Have This Dance made the evening more delightful as they shared their first dance ahead of cutting their lovely cake created by the resort’s pastry chef.
The newly-weds enjoyed a seven-day Caribbean cruise… the perfect start to their life of fun and happiness.
