Montego Bay by drennaLUNA
When organisers of The Gallery Berlin, one of several trade shows held during Berlin Fashion Week, selected five labels from the Caribbean to participate for the first time in any event in that market, drennaLUNA was among them. The event, funded by the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA) was one of several industry initiatives in the last year seeking to increase exports
from the region. The three- day event welcomed labels and buyers from across Europe for the Spring/ Summer 2014 season. In addition to the trade event, four of the Caribbean designers — Meiling, Heather Jones, Fifth Element and drennaLUNA — presented their collections at a fashion show during the event.
The Montego Bay Collection, which was presented for the first time at Caribbean Fashion Week in June, received positive feedback and designer Arlene L Martin is confident that there is potential in the market for her drennaLUNA label as well as others from the region.
THE COLLECTION: MONTEGO BAY
The designs showcase both structure and fluidity. The collection is inspired by the different sides of Jamaica: the soft, friendly side of the laid-back people known globally, and our get-down-to-business serious nature that pushes many of us to achieve. Montego Bay, with its growing business sector, while remaining the island’s leading tourist resort, is the ideal representation of this. The all-white collection is soft and sophisticated reflecting the essence of the drennaLUNA brand, but bold silhouettes reflect the bold nature of the people of Jamaica.
Details in the structured items of the collection include pleats and tucks, while folds and draping in softer fabrics create the soft fluid side.
