BACK2LIFE Foundation hosts first men’s forum
THE BACK2LIFE Foundation will host its inaugural ‘men only’ event today at 6.00 pm at the Altamont Court Hotel under the theme “The Heroes Journey: An honest conversation about Masculinity, Power and Success.”
The panel discussion will feature psychiatrist Dr Aggrey Irons, Member of Parliament Damian Crawford, Attorney-at-Law Ian Wilkinson QC, Kevin Wallen, and Monsignor Michael Lewis. This formidable line-up of successful men will tell their personal and professional stories in an effort to assist the audience to address the issues they face in their private, work and public lives.
The event is free to the public (men only) and is geared towards addressing some of the pressing concerns affecting men — and as a result boys — in the Jamaican society. The discussion will air issues such as crime, violence, abuse, fatherlessness and corruption, and will explore possible solutions and will remedies.
The BACK2LIFE Foundation, under the patronage of Sir Patrick Allen, was formed in June 2013 as a successor to the Rotary Club of Kingston’s BACK2LIFE, the major project of 2012-2013 President Manley Nicholson.
This project first focuses on boys at the Rio Cobre Juvenile Correctional Centre in St Catherine and sets out to reduce recidivism and dysfunctional behaviour though life skills training, life coaching, family support and mentorship by male volunteers. The project also seeks to raise public awareness of the issues adversely affecting at-risk boys, so as to encourage change at the individual and policy level.
All men are invited to this event. Doors open at 5:15 pm.
