Blind date horror stories
IF you haven’t been on one, at some point in your life you would have heard about someone who has, or resisted being convinced to go out with or meet someone you know zilch about.
It’s called blind dating, and though it may have the potential to be wonderful, chances are there will be down points or straight out horrific experiences on your first night alone with a total stranger.
Below a few blind daters share their horror stories with All Woman.
Nathaniel:
I joined one of the telecommunications company’s chat rooms and started speaking to a girl who seemed interesting. After a few conversations I realised she didn’t live that far from me, so I decided to meet her. When I saw her, compared to how she described herself, she looked the total opposite. I made up an excuse to leave and trashed her number.
Matthew:
A girl called my number by accident and her voice sounded good, so I continued to call her and make phone links. When we started speaking more frequently she told me how much she looked like T-Boz from TLC so I said to myself, ‘Yeah man, sound so and look so, that’s a killer combo’. My cousin was set to arrive in Jamaica a few days later and I said to her, ‘Bring a friend for the link up and we’ll meet at Sovereign Centre’. I got to Sovereign Centre and was there looking for T-Boz and couldn’t find her. We saw three girls looking at us from upstairs but we paid them no mind and we continued looking. After a few minutes we saw the same three girls approaching us and we said, ‘Nah, it couldn’t be them.’ They came up and called us by our names. When they identified themselves, instead of T-Boz I saw Baraka from Mortal Kombat. Her cousin looked nice, but she was in a situation by herself. Lesson: don’t judge looks based on voice.
Melissa:
I was introduced to a a man by a mutual friend who told me he was decent and I should get to know him. After speaking to him on the phone for some time I decided I was going to meet him. So we agreed we were going to watch a play and told each other what we would be wearing. When I met him the first thing I noticed was that he did not have a six- pack, but a pouch. Secondly, he was very odd, kept tossing his banana chips at people and making weird noises.
Aneisha:
I met him from us conducting numerous business transactions over the phone for my company and we decided to become friends. We would speak every other day. He sent me amazing pictures of himself and gave me the impression that he was a gentleman. When I linked up with him, he was very proud and boastful. So completely annoyed, I asked why the change in attitude, and he admitted that it was his brother who was speaking to me, and getting me comfortable so I would agree to a date.
Samantha:
Usually the woman decides where to meet the guy and takes the opportunity to run. Well, he said he would make dinner reservations and I should go to the place and sit and wait for him. I did just that. When he sat down in front of me I said to myself, ‘Wow, he really looks nice.’ So, the date is going quite well and he revealed he had a good paying job and spoke of his assets and amenities. Afterwards the only thing I remember is a man shouting at him and asking if he forgot that the plates were around the back to wash up.
Frederick:
I was invited to meet a friend’s sister and I honestly didn’t like how she looked. After the meeting they brought me back to their home and introduced me to their parents and I felt very uncomfortable and just never went back.
Paula:
I used to get a ride to work from this older lawyer who lived near me, and would pick me up from the bus stop. We would talk a lot, as I was studying to enter the field. He told me he had a son he thought I’d like, so I agreed to meet up with the son for the upcoming Valentine’s Day. Well, the son was supposed to pick me up at home and we’d take a taxi to Carib. When he knocked, my sister answered the door and immediately erupted into giggles. My niece then intervened, and she, too, collapsed on the living room floor. I went out to the passage to look, and standing there was my prince, dressed head to toe in red and white polka dots — even a scarf and dark glasses. I was so embarrassed, but couldn’t turn him down, so we went to Carib like that, and got strange looks all night.
