Is she a gold digger or a goal digger?
KANYE West’s Gold Digger resonated with many people who could relate to experiences with these types — the women who, as Jamie Foxx says in the song’s intro, take men’s money when they’re in need.
The gold digger is easily identifiable by her quest to advance in life at the expense of whoever can pay her expenses; but on the other hand, there is the goal digger, a new breed of woman who seeks to realise academic or other goals at her man’s expense.
Is there a difference between these two types? Counsellor David Anderson says the goal digger is the smarter of the two, as she seeks advancement beyond the materialistic.
“While both types seek out partners for money, one uses the money to advance herself, while the other might not,” he said.
“Many, many women are goal diggers, but they will turn their noses up at the gold digger because they believe that at least they will get something lasting from the relationship.”
Below are some differences between the two types of women.
Who is a gold digger?
1. A woman who is interested only in what you have to offer. These women will most times be unemployed, and are always on the hunt for a wealthier partner than the last.
2. She’s seeking to advance without working very hard. She wants to get rich overnight, and believes the men she’s in relationships with should willingly offer gold spoons to her.
3. She starts a relationship for financial gain only. Gold diggers often engage in relationships with the aim of ‘nyamming out’ their men. Their main goal is to acquire as much wealth as possible, even if it means tying the men to them through pregnancy.
4. She always wants designer clothing she can’t afford. Gold diggers always want the best clothing, designs and assets, and seek cash to pay for their luxury items.
Who is a goal digger?
1. She is an educated individual who is always seeking new opportunities. A goal digger makes hay while the sun shines. These individuals don’t miss out on opportunities. They are often the ones seeking a new promotion at their workplace or seeking a new job or seeking new places and assets to invest in, at someone else’s expense. They are sophisticated individuals who plan and work very hard to achieve their objectives in life.
2. She is career-oriented and academically driven. The aim in being financed by a man is to advance herself academically or to acquire assets like real estate.
3. She believes intelligence goes hand-in-hand with prosperity, and one of her ultimate life goals is to be continuously prosperous. She knows that looks fade, and so while she is young, will seek to save for the rainy day when she’s no longer able to attract wealthy men.
4. She has ambition and drive. She needs no one to encourage her to get up each day, not procrastinate and achieve her daily objectives. She is focused, and has a constant drive to succeed at all she does.
5. She is an overachiever who lets nothing interfere with her objectives, especially relationships. She is all about living and not just being alive. She loves to explore new places, see new cities and wants to experience the glories of life.
