Leaf of Life and weight loss
Dear Donovan,
What are the properties of Leaf of Life? Is it good for weight loss?
The Leaf of Life plant (bryophyllum pinnatum) is native to Africa but can be found in abundance in many subtropical and tropical areas like Jamaica.
Several studies have shown that the plant has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, detoxing, immune-boosting, anti-cancer and anti-pain properties. In addition, this plant also has significant antihistamine and anaphylactic properties. Also, the Leaf of Life plant has been shown to have anti-diabetic properties as well as working as an intestinal cleanse. The plant has also been shown to rid the body of mucus.
In Jamaica, the Leaf of Life plant is mainly used for respiratory conditions such as shortness of breath, asthma, colds, coughs and bronchitis. The plant is usually taken as a tea or the leaf juiced or eaten raw.
In terms of the Leaf of Life plant being used for weight loss, I have not seen any creditable research done to prove this point. However, the plant does have some properties that might help in weight loss. For example, the plant has intestinal cleansing properties that can cleanse the body of waste matter, which can definitely contribute to weight loss.
In addition, the plant also shows immune boosting properties. The shock to the body of starting a weight loss programme can result in the immune system becoming weaker. This can sometimes result in flu or colds. Hence, the Leaf of Life plant could be used to boost the immune system while you do your weight loss programme.
Good luck.
