Vows: Ever after…

Vows: Ever after…

A story of perseverance culminated in the February 14, 2016 union of Dwayne Collins and Moveta Gill – both business operators of U L I C Imports Limited. It was a day of pure bliss.

The wedding décor at Petals & Promises ensured that the Eden Gardens Wellness Resort & Spa was the perfect venue for the couple’s theme of red and silver.

Vows takes you on a journey of what happens when two worlds collide.

How they met… (Moveta’s version)

We both worked in close proximity for many years, but neither of us said anything to each other until 2007. Almost every day, Dwayne kept telling me that he liked me, but I wouldn’t give him the time of day. His friends urged him to throw in the towel, because I was a woman who worked in corporate Jamaica, and he was a small business operator in downtown, Kingston.

One day, throwing caution to the wind, he gave me his number, and weeks later I gave him a call. My call to him, however, was to underscore the many reasons why a relationship between us would never work. Primary among these was the fact that we were from two different worlds.

My protestations proved futile, and I decided to give the relationship a chance.

The proposal…

… took place on Moveta’s birthday, notably March 25, 2013. Dwayne and her aunt had planned a spa day for her, followed by dinner at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel. The surprise engagement would then take place. The well-executed plans were thrown out after Dwayne saw her that morning in her fabulous birthday ensemble. He complimented her, but suggested that there was something missing. At that very moment he popped the question. Her response: an emphatic ‘Yes!’

The ceremony…

With the strains of John Legend’s Stay With You playing in the background, the bride made her way up the aisle — stunning in a Sottero and Midgley ball gown that featured a sweetheart neckline and a crystal-embellished bodice. On her feet were sparkling silver ballet flats by Michael Kors. In her hand she clutched a bouquet of perfect red and white roses. The bridegroom was dapper in a light grey suit from Hugo Boss, paired with a white shirt and a red tie.

The ceremony took guests through a course of the traditional wedding vows. Further highlights included a medley of songs by Denise Binns, the groom’s sister, and the symbolic blending of the sands ceremony. A candle was also lit in memory of the bride’s father who had passed mere months prior to the wedding. The solemn moment would soon pass when the newly-weds exited to Stevie Wonder’s

The reception

Dwayne and Moveta changed for their reception — she into a white lace dress with silver rhinestones from Emanuelle Boutique, with dazzling red accessories, while he traded his suit for a pair of white Banana Republic chinos, a deep red Express shirt, and a silver bow tie.

The guests were entertained by MC Ryan Dixon with his perfectly timed jokes, and wedding singer Kevin Lawrence, who electrified the evening with hits like Ben E King’s

Stand By Me.

The honeymoon

The newly-weds spent their wedding night at Eden Gardens, and the rest of their honeymoon at the Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort and Spa.
