Vows: This Very Moment

Who knew that Cupid’s bow was directed at J Wray and Nephew Retail Operations Team Leader Nastassia Hall and Quality and Compliance Director David Morrison? And that six years after their initial encounter, they would be exiting Webster Memorial United Church as newly-weds? Vows recounts the unfolding of this corporate romance.

What sparked the flame, as told to Vows by David

We met in 2006 when Nastassia started working part-time at J Wray and Nephew. There was not much interaction. In 2010 she became a full-time member of the team and that’s when things really heated up. I began attending netball games to watch her play, and I would see her at different events. She had such a wonderful spirit, absolutely gorgeous, it was impossible not to be attracted to her. I plucked up the courage to ask her out to dinner one evening, and from then on our souls have been connected. We started going out more and the closer we got, the more I realised she was perfect for me. We didn’t even really know when we became a couple; it really just felt like we’d always been together.

I proposed to Nastassia on August 15, 2015, but had sought her mother’s blessing a few weeks earlier. She was ecstatic about it and showered me with her blessings and good wishes on my journey. I bought Nastassia’s engagement ring and hid it for a few weeks, anticipating the right moment to pop the question.

One night as we lay in bed talking, the topic of marriage came up and she told me that she doubted that I was ready for marriage. Immediately, I felt the urge to prove her wrong, so I went for the ring and got down on one knee and popped the question. Thankfully the answer was a resounding, “YES!”

The Ceremony

The bridegroom was debonair in a Spokes Apparel three-piece, fossil-grey suit accented with a cobalt-blue bow tie. The groomsmen wore fossilgrey two-piece suits with cobalt-blue neckties, also tailored by Spokes Apparel. They escorted the stunning bridesmaids, who were styled in cobaltblue floor-length gowns designed to complement each figure by designer Charmaine Knight-Brown as they made their way up the aisle in pairs to the strains of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years.

K-Ci & JoJo’s This Very Moment was played while Nastassia made her way up the aisle escorted by her stepfather Deverowe Hogarth. She was stunning in a Galia Lahav-inspired fit and flare low-back white gown designed by Mei Lei and fitted with an illusion neckline, appliquéd with lace and beaded crystals complemented by a white bird-cage veil. The team at New Levels Décor Limited decorated the aisles of Webster Memorial United in the cobalt-blue and silver theme with bouquets of flowers and drapery arrangements. The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Nicholas Forrester and the programme included a musical selection by bridesmaid Nikolae Bailey-Keating.

THE RECEPTION

The team at New Levels Décor Limited brought their magic to the Gold Room at The UWI, Mona Visitors’ Lodge, which they transformed into an idyllic cobalt-blue and silver setting highlighted with elements of white. The tables were bedecked with bouquets of hydrangeas, roses and orchids and labelled with destinationthemed seating charts. The wedding party made its entrance to Drake’s One Dance. Luvin Scarlett was the master of ceremonies, who introduced the newlyweds for their first dance to J Holiday’s Forever Ain’t Enough, which included the couple’s adorable two-year-old son Kai Morrison, who joined his parents at the beginning of their dance.

Following this, guests enjoyed a sumptuous threecourse dinner catered by Kaluga Gourmet Access, and a three-tiered mixed-fruit cake by Forever Sweet JA. With the newly-weds being dedicated sports fans, the reception was put on pause for the viewing of the women’s 100-metre race in the Rio Olympics. The excitement reached fever pitch! Calm restored, guests partied until the wee hours of the morning to tunes spun by DJ Omar C.

The couple honeymooned in Cancun, Mexico.
