Is age nothing but a number?
AGE plays an important role in relationships, despite the popular saying that ‘age is nothing but a number’. Here are three points that you should consider when pondering a relationship with age disparity.
1. Age brings forth a different level of maturity and wisdom. It can be argued that there are a lot of older women and men with low maturity levels, and young adults with immense wisdom. However, for the most part, age does bring forth wisdom, and a man with over 50 years of experiences and wisdom will find it hard to relate on certain levels with a woman of 19 years, for example. The only common factor will be sex.
2. It can be seen as disrespectful. This kind of relationship will be judged and it can come off as disrespectful if the older party has children, or if his/her last relationship didn’t end well.
3. There will be little or no commonalities. A young person will have interest in experiences that the older party would have been through already. For instance, a young woman may have interest in hanging out and going to the clubs to have a grand time, while her older partner may desire to stay home and watch a movie or go to a restaurant and dine out. This can cause a major conflict between the parties.
There are always exceptions as people do venture into these types of relationship and manage to succeed with perfect love stories. However, age is a crucial factor to consider when choosing a partner.
