Temper your expectations
We all enter relationships with some amount of expectations, especially if we have come to establish a standard for ourselves. Once things get to the relationship stage, we will think that once there are no obvious red flags, this person should fit into a mould of what we want them to be.But sometimes the expectations can be enough to kill the budding relationship and destroy the chemistry, depending on how we approach things. What are some of these great expectations?
1. Thinking that he/she must be the ONEBecause someone is nice to you or appears ‘perfect’, you immediately ascribe some status to them, ignoring potential flaws. But remember, people are always ‘perfect’ at first or try to be because they know first impressions last.
2. Because they dress flawlessly or dress nicely, they have disposable income. This belief will totally lead you astray. Do not judge on appearance. Get to know someone first before you sum them up.
3. The person is nice, so they are kind and lovingAgain, you can use this to dissect someone’s character. There are a lot of nice hypocrites and pretenders in the world so you must invest time in someone to know them.Below, some people share their experiences with this issue.
JL:Well, when I was younger, I had all these ridiculous expectations like how my husband must look and all that. I am almost 40 years old and I am still single.
Lacey:I used to think because a man has status and money, he is upper class and should behave in a particular way, until I dated one of these types and it was a complete shipwreck.
David:Expectations will keep you single!
