Vows: At Last xoxo

Sunday, May 21, 2017 will be etched forever in the memories of Owen Campbell Jr, civil engineer at Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, and Korrie Taylor, licensed master social worker at the Medical City Dallas Hospital. On that special day the two were joined in holy matrimony at the Community Church of East Williston, Mineola, New York. VOWS is pleased to recount their journey to the altar.

How they met…

Korrie and Owen met in August 2008 at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where they were both studying. Friendship turned to love and continued after Owen graduated and returned home to Jamaica. Further studies brought them back together, as after their undergrad degrees they both relocated to Texas to pursue their master’s; Korrie did hers in social work and Owen did his in construction engineering. It was during this period that their love truly blossomed as they enjoyed spur-of-the-moment romantic vacations, travelling, indulging in exotic cuisine, water sports, playing video games, and enjoying athletic thrill-seeking activities.

The proposal, as told by Korrie…

‘It was Wednesday, December 30, 2016, on one of my frequent visits to spend time with Owen and his family. It was all about Murphy’s Law that day! The flight from Texas to Montego Bay was terrible: a child cried throughout the flight. On arrival the customs officers searched all my bags, and as if that wasn’t enough Owen arrived late to pick me up.

We stopped to eat at the Pelican Grill. I ordered the appetiser, and the waitress brought out a cake with a ring in it. Owen got down on one knee and surprised me with a proposal of marriage. I said yes!’

The ceremony…

The exchange of vows took place at the Community Church of East Williston in Mineola, New York. The wedding theme was ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ with the colours of Tiffany blue and silver with gold accents. The gorgeous bridesmaids made their way up the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D, dressed in Tiffany blue A-line gowns with one-shoulder lace bodices. They were escorted by the dapper groomsmen in grey suits with Tiffany blue ties and pocket squares from the Men’s Warehouse. At the altar stood Owen, wearing a custom-made tuxedo by Enzo Custom of Manhattan, New York.

To the timeless strains of Here Comes the Bride, Korrie glided up the aisle towards her groom, escorted by her father Bryan Taylor. She was a vision of loveliness in an Eve of Milady gown from Kleinfeld Bridal in Manhattan, New York, complete with a cathedral veil, as she clutched a bouquet of red roses.

The proceedings were officiated by the Reverend Dan Fritz.

The reception…

The reception was held at the Jericho Terrace Wedding Reception Hall in Mineola. Guided by master of ceremonies Stephen Peart, the bridal party made their entrance to Cloud 5’s No Behaviour, followed by the newly-weds who danced in to the music of Coco by O T Genasis, cheered on by the exuberant screams of friends and family. It was truly an occasion to remember.

The honeymoon…

The lovebirds enjoyed a six-day stay at the Sheraton Maui Resort and the Outrigger Resort in Honolulu, Hawaii.
