Virginity restoration and other forms of designer laser vaginoplasty

Dr Daryl Daley

FAR from being limited to the nose, breast, abdomen and buttocks, cosmetic surgery can be performed on almost every part of the body, including the female genital structures. Designer laser vaginoplasty (DLV) refers to the aesthetic enhancement of the vulvar structures (labia minora and majora, mons pubis, perineum and clitoris). A few weeks ago we discussed laser labial reduction, which is the most common form of DLV. This week we will take a brief look at other forms of DLV.

Reduction of excess prepuce

This procedure is commonly done in conjunction with the laser labial reduction. The prepuce refers to the excess skin located to the sides of the clitoris. Surgical removal of this excess skin leads to a more youthful appearance of the vulva.

Laser perineoplasty

The perineum refers to the area between the vagina and the anus. This procedure can rejuvenate the relaxed or ageing perineum. It can also enhance the labia majora (large outer lips) and labia minora. Overall, the procedure can provide a youthful and aesthetically appealing vulva.

Augmentation labioplasty

This procedure involves the removal of the patient’s own fat via liposuction — from the abdomen, buttocks or thigh — and transplanting it into the labia majora (autologous fat transfer). This results in augmentation and rejuvenation of the labia majora. A small puncture is made in the lower portion of the labia majora, into which a small tube is then inserted. Fatty tissue is next injected into one side of the labia majora and then the other.

Vulvar lipoplasty

The mons pubis is the rounded mass of fatty tissue located over the pubic bone. Some refer to this as the “bladder cushion”. In some women this area can be very bulky. Unwanted fat of the mons pubis and upper parts of the labia majora can be removed. Liposuction can alleviate the unsightly bulges in this area and produce an aesthetically pleasing contour.

Hymenoplasty

This reconstructive surgery can repair the hymen as if no penetration has occurred. In some cultures, virginity is extremely sacred, and only a husband has the right to deprive a woman of it. Some women undergo this procedure in order to provide ‘proof of virginity’ to their unsuspecting husbands.

Combining LVR and DLV

As mentioned in an earlier column, laser vaginal rejuvenation (LVR) is the gold standard for the treatment of vaginal relaxation or laxity of the vaginal wall. In some instances, LVR can be combined with DLV to enhance pleasure and to improve the aesthetic appearance of the vulva.

After undergoing any of the above procedures, women are advised to refrain from sexual activity for two to three months. All these procedures are available in both Kingston and Montego Bay.
