Vows: Everlasting Love

Musician/teacher Christopher Campbell and SuperTech Marketing CEO Crystal Powell are still on cloud nine after tying the knot on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Pollyana Caterers. Vows introduces Mr and Mrs Christopher Campbell.

Their first encounter, as related by Crystal…

Christopher and I met in February 2015 at a gospel concert in Kingston. I was working at the bar and he was playing the guitar with his band. He came over to the bar and introduced himself and we spoke a little. I had my hands full with other customers, so I offered to give him my cell number so we could continue our conversation. He messaged me that same night, and would continue doing so from time to time.

The first encounter, as related by Christopher

From the fist night I saw her at the concert I knew that she was going to be special to me. So I went over and ordered a drink, just to say hi. She was beautiful, warm and welcoming.

For almost a year Crystal and I would occasionally converse, but it was not until I expressed to her my true intentions that things moved to the next level. We developed a closer bond and became a couple in January 2016. What was once friendship had morphed into love.

The proposal

Christopher proposed to me in March 2016 at Strawberry Hill Hotel, Irish Town. He’d told me we were going somewhere; I knew something was up but couldn’t quite figure out what it was. On our way to ‘somewhere’ he just kept smiling while driving. I actually fell asleep for a portion of the journey. I awoke at Strawberry Hill to a warm welcome from the hotel’s staff. We walked around the property enjoying the view for a while before Christopher read a beautiful poem he had written for me. A few seconds later I heard the sounds of a saxophone. To my surprise, I saw his friend Verlando Small playing his saxophone. When I turned around I saw Christopher down on one knee, declaring his love and asking me to marry him.

Naturally, I said ‘Yes’! The rest of the evening was a blur of happiness.

The ceremony

Family and friends gathered at Pollyanna Caterers to share in Crystal and Christopher’s special day. The groom looked smart in a three-piece grey suit with blue accents. The maid of honour wore a royal blue fishtail dress designed by Ouida Thomas. The bride, who made her entrance to Celine Dion’s Because You Loved Me, was a vision of elegance in a gorgeous Kirstie Kelly gown from White Lotus Boutique and a custom lace cover-up by Kamala McWhinnie. She clutched a bouquet of white calla lilies with a hint of red and royal blue.

Pastor Patricia Holness officiated the ceremony and later declared the couple husband and wife.

The reception

The reception was held inside the ballroom at Pollyanna Caterers. Guided by master of ceremonies Kevin Heath, the bridal party and the newly-weds made their entrance to the bride’s favourite song, Carly Rae Jepsen’s Cut To The Feeling, cheered on by exuberant friends and family. It was truly an occasion to remember.
