Vows: #teamstephenson

W hen Shane Stephenson, location manager for Marksman, met Jennifer Brown, an armed guard from the same company, neither of them knew that a mutual friend’s matchmaking would result in their union of marriage on Saturday, October 14, 2017. Vows walks you up the altar.

How they met

Shane and Jennifer first met at Mas Camp where they were both scheduled to work. Shane introduced himself to Jennifer asking if he could get to know her and for her contact number at the end of event. Jennifer left the event without giving him her number. Shane tried to find her but to no avail. As fate would have it, the two met again when Shane got off a bus at Above Rocks whilst Jennifer was getting on. He asked her if she was still at Marksman and where she was posted. That’s when he enlisted a fellow co-worker as a facilitator. That co-worker, however, was somewhat wary, but eventually approached Jennifer with her phone. Shane was on the other end. It wasn’t smooth sailing at first, but both decided to give it a try… cupid’s arrow did the rest.

The proposal (as told by Jennifer)

Shane proposed to me in October 2016 after dinner one evening. We were having a normal conversation while watching a movie and he said, “Remember when I told you I’d make you happy? I meant it, and you’ve been there for me always, through thick and thin; you’ve taken my child as your own. I know you love me as much as I love you, and with that in mind I want to marry you.” He had no ring at the time, but who needed a ring when the man of your dreams was looking at you like you are his soul? I said yes, and a year later we were married.

Dearly beloved…

Family and friends gathered on the lawns of Struan Castle Garden in Red Hills, St Andrew, to witness Jennifer and Shane’s special day. Shane wore an off-white three-piece tuxedo with eggplant purple silk tie. The groomsmen wore black tuxedos with plum vests and corsages pinned to their lapels. The bridesmaids wore plum chiffon off-the-shoulder dresses with lace in the back. Jennifer entered to Westlife’s Beautiful In White. She was gorgeous in an off-the-shoulder purple and white satin dress with a beaded bodice and lace at the back. Reverend Jacob McLean from Hampton Green Missionary Church officiated the ceremony and later declared the couple husband and wife. Post-nuptial formalities out of the way, Jennifer and Shane left the altar to Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk featuring Bruno Mars . The ceremony also featured the release of two white doves in celebration of their love.

The reception

The reception featured the presentation of the newly-weds accompanied by their bridal party to Rihanna’s Wild Thoughts. This was followed by the couple’s first dance as husband and wife to Westlife’s Unbreakable. Guests enjoyed a sumptuous three-course meal catered by Struan Castle and witnessed the cutting of the rum fruitcake — the creation of friends Jermaine and Kellesia Samuda. The evening ended with games, and a story session during which guests recounted memorable moments with either the bride or the groom. It was truly an occasion to remember.
