Vows: My Everything

Canadian Visa Application Centre visa analyst Kevin-Sean Hamilton wed digital content producer at Toucan Jamaica Chauntae Lawrence at the Chinese Gardens, Hope Botanical Gardens, on Saturday, December 16, 2017. Vows takes you inside the intimate affair.

How they met…

Her version

We first met through a mutual friend in late 2012. Kevin first approached me through social media in March 2013, where he literally slid into my Twitter DMs, playing the concerned friend when I was released after a medical stay at University Hospital of the West Indies. Funnily enough, I had been casually checking out his Twitter profile daily, prior to this. A week later he found a slick way to ask for my number and the rest was God! I knew this was going to be my husband but, of course, I didn’t want him to think I was crazy, so we just followed the natural progression of things.

His version

I saw a picture of her on Twitter and thought, I have to get to know her! I had done surgery a few weeks earlier and after hearing about her ordeal from our mutual friend, I decided to use it as a “common ground” to break the ice (Slick Rick). Getting to know each other was quite easy. It felt natural and unforced, which allowed us to get much closer.

The proposal

“The proposal was the most perfect thing ever! Kevin planned a whole Sip N’ Paint party with one of my artist friends, Tamarra Kirkpatrick, and made it seem as if it was she who had invited me and some close friends to a private part,” Chauntae recalled.

The ceremony

The exchange of vows took place on the lawns at the Chinese Gardens, Hope Botanical Gardens, where the theme was rustic chic. The team from As You Wish Events used shades of purple and burnt orange to decorate the area.

The bridesmaids made their way up the aisle to the strains of Chrisette Michele’s Golden, dressed in floor-length purple wrap dresses, and the maid of honour in orange. They were escorted by the groomsmen, who wore Spokes Apparel navy pants, white shirts, complemented by purple bow ties for the groomsmen and orange for the best man from J Hux Bowties, with brown suspenders.

There was hardly a dry eye as Lowell Lawrence proudly walked his daughter up the aisle. Chauntae looked gorgeous in a white mermaid chiffon gown complete with sweetheart neckline and adorned with a bejewelled belt from Bliss Bridal Boutique. At the altar stood the handsome bridegroom, dressed in a navy suit from Spokes Apparel, with an orange and purple bow tie from J Hux Bowties. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Bruce Polson.

The reception

The reception followed at the same venue. Guided by master of ceremonies Alysia Moulton White, the newly-weds and their bridal party made their entrance to Patoranking’s My Woman, My Everything featuring Wande Coal, cheered on by friends and family. This was followed by the couple’s first dance as husband and wife to Ed Sheeran’s Kiss Me. Post-formalities, guests enjoyed a sumptuous three-course meal and witnessed the cutting of the three-tiered plain and fruitcake by Kamilah Lawrence. The newly-weds and their guests subsequently danced up a storm to the soundscape of DJ Dre of Shockwave Entertainment.

The honeymoon

The couple honeymooned at Secrets St James, Montego Bay.
