Vows: One Love

VIP Attractions CEO Shelly-Ann Fung wed Troy King, Sandals Resorts International group manager for food and beverage, on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Borghinvilla, Discovery Bay, St Ann. Vows recounts the unfolding of this love affair.

The first encounter

The two met six years ago on the job at Sandals Resorts International. Shelly-Ann was working in the wedding department and Troy in food and beverage. A day out at sea brought them together; Common interests would keep them together. Both are avid foodies and wine lovers so, for their first date, Troy prepared a gastronomic spread complete with wine pairing. There’d be no turning back!

The proposal, as told by Shelly-Ann

Troy proposed to me at one of our favourite restaurants, Eddie V’s in Houston. Waiters came by each bearing a long-stemmed rose. Our song All Of Me by John Legend started playing throughout the restaurant. Suddenly, I noticed family coming from everywhere (some family members had even flown in from Jamaica). It was a beautiful surprise.

I now pronounce you…

The ceremony took place at Borghinvilla, Discovery Bay on the cliffside over looking the Caribbean sea. Sharon Bair from Saint T Décor handled the décor. The flower girl’s walk to the altar, to the melody of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years, signalled the start. Dressed in a white dress with cowboy boots and carrying a white basket of pink buds she elicited many a smile.

Shelly-Ann made her way to her dapper bridegroom also to the strains of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years, played by Moses Beckford. Escorted by her father Chester Fung, she was gorgeous in a white custom-made dress by Dermoth Williams from Uzuri International. She, too, wore cowboy boots. The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Garland Black.

The reception

…was held on the Cliffside at Borghinvilla. It was as exciting a time for the newly-weds as it was for their guests. Bair used rustic mixed with burlap and lace décor to incorporate both the Jamaican and Texan cultures. Café-type tables and lounge furniture allowed guests to spend less time sitting and more time dancing the night away.

The Silver Birds Steel Band Orchestra and Pace Reggae Band provided live music and entertainment. Formalities included the couple’s first dance as husband and wife to John Legend’s All Of Me, followed by the first new family reunion dance with the newly-weds and the bride’s daughter Leah to My Wish by Rascal Flaltts and the cutting of the three-tiered vanilla cake topped with a cowboy boot and high-heeled shoe by Leanne Popkin.

The honeymoon

The newly-weds enjoyed a 13-stop-three-week cruise/land tour. Countries visited included Italy, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro and Mexico.
