Why we’re waiting for marriage

Why we’re waiting for marriage

By Miss Kes

Until the vows are said and the marriage register is signed, religion dictates that we keep ourselves chaste. And even for some of those that aren’t super religious, these beliefs stand, and they make a commitment of chastity to themselves.

Why do they insist on waiting for marriage?

Dahlia:

I decided to remain a virgin until marriage because of religious beliefs. I am loyal to the core and I gave my soul to God and for that reason, it is a privilege to wait. I am 31 years old and I will continue to wait until the right man comes.

Janaye:

I’m doing it for religious purposes and I have no regrets because when I look on the men I went out with in the past, had I lost my virginity to them, it would be depressing and I would feel so low. I think it is something that is sacred and I will wait for my husband.

Shanelle:

I was raised in the church so that’s what we were taught, but I’m also doing it for personal reasons. I want to give my body to one man only, and I know it is a huge risk because I could actually get married and it fails. But I am willing to hold out until my heart reveals to me who deserve it.

And what do the men think of women who make this pledge?

Brian:

I respect a woman who is willing to commit her body to being sacred, but a man is a man and I have desires. So I would pass on being in a relationship with a woman like that, but much respect to them anyway.

Ray:

I couldn’t go through the process of teaching a woman how to do things, the way I had to do in my teen years. That’s not my cup a tea,  but big them up still.

Jermain:

If a woman tells me that she’s holding it for marriage, I would pass. Any woman you want, they’re available, so it just seems too demanding to be with someone who insists on being chaste.
