What do men mean when they say, “it’s complicated”?
It’s a status spawned by the advent of Facebook – suddenly it’s the hip thing to list your status as “complicated” when you can’t quite figure your love life out. And this of course confuses potential love interests, some of whom see this status as just an excuse for men to be wild.
So we asked the men to uncover the truths, and share exactly what they mean when they tell a woman that their relationship status is complicated.
RJ:
Some men really use that phrase loosely because they want the woman but they are in a relationship so because they cannot blatantly say to the woman that they are in a relationship, they just tell her that they are in a complicated situation.
Campbell:
It means, I am in something that I need rescue from. Some women are misled to think it means the man is in a relationship and is hiding it, but that is not the case all the time. Sometimes the reality is that he needs rescue.
Jonai:
It means the man is confused about the woman he is in a relationship with so he is not really committed – he’s single and looking.
Jordan:
It means I am in a relationship and I’d rather not talk about it because I really want to leave it. Sometimes relationships get complicated because of years and attachment so yes, a man wants to come out because he is not happy, but because of attachment and all the years that went into it, it makes it even harder to walk away from.
Orlando:
It means I am in a relationship that is not serious so technically, I am open to other options. Currently I am in a complicated type of relationship. I am single and have been sleeping with a friend. She is now demanding that I make it official but I am not at that stage yet where she is concerned. It’s maybe because I see her as a friend and nothing more.
