It’s a… gender guessing game
BEFORE ultrasound exams became so popular in Jamaica, it was anybody’s guess what the gender of the baby a pregnant woman was carrying would be. Even today, there are still many old wives’ tales that are used to tell the sex of a baby before it is born, and many expecting mothers try to predict their babies’ gender using these methods.
Some people swear by them, while others say they are not true. From speaking to mothers though, they guarantee that they are all at least 50 per cent accurate.
Karonna:
If the mother’s belly button pokes out and is very obvious, it’s a boy.
Lasine:
A boy baby will give his mom a rounder belly and swollen feet.
Yanille:
I heard that you can use the baking soda test. You just mix equal amounts of the pregnant woman’s urine (first thing in the morning) and baking soda. If it starts to fizz up, it’s a boy. If nothing happens, it’s a girl. I also know that girls make the mom’s belly rounder, and boys make it pointier.
Rachael:
If the mother is spitting uncontrollably, it means a boy is coming.
Shanae:
If the belly is high, it’s a girl. If it is low, it’s a boy.
Jenell:
If the belly is oval it is a boy and if it is round it’s a girl.
Maxine:
Girl babies take away all of their mother’s pretty looks when she is pregnant, so she will become ugly. She will have bumpy, oily skin, and her face will get swollen, especially her nose and lips. Boy babies make their mothers glow and get prettier.
Tonia:
It depends on who is drawn to you. If you find that women are always playing around with you and helping you out when you are pregnant, then it’s a boy. If men do the same, it’s a girl.
Shauna:
Place a key in front of the expectant mother. If she grabs it by the narrow part, she’s having a girl. If she picks it up by the round part, she’s having a boy.
Janene:
If the woman has terrible morning sickness, it’s definitely a boy.
Jhana:
I heard that if the woman craves more foods that taste sweet, she is having a girl. If she wants mainly salty things, it’s a boy.
Natalie:
Let the pregnant woman hold somebody’s baby. Boy babies will cry if she is carrying a boy, but girl babies will be calm. The opposite is true if she is having a girl.
