Sophia Morgan, Flow's senior manager, customer experience, enjoys a quick story with four-year-old Davina Crawford, a familyfriend. âOne of the most amazing things for me as an adult is being able to read with a child. The knowledge that by reading aloud tochildren I'm helping to stimulate their imagination and expand theirknowledge of the world, gives me great pleasure.â

Read to me, please
Throughout the month of May, which is celebrated nationally as Child Month, telecommunications firm FLOW has been spending time sharing the joys of reading with children across Jamaica. The Jamaica Observer caught up with a few Flow team members who actively dedicate time to read to their own children and those around them.
Dwight Williams, director product management at Flow, and his daughter Danica bond while he helps her with her homework. “I encourage Danica to read as much as possible to not only expand her vocabulary, but to develop the discipline required to reach any goal she sets for herself in life. It’s also fun to now have her reading to us and sharing what she has learned atschool every day.”
Camalo Rhoden, Flow business sales engineer, and his twin daughters Kamili (left) and Calida snuggleup for a story after school. “Making time to read with Kamili and Calida is a major highlight of myday. The time spent reading allows me to directly contribute to their learning. I watch how animatedthey become when immersed in a story while being impressed by their ability to quickly grasp andunderstand new words. Reading time = Daddy-Daughter time.”
Chevanice Bashford-Powell, Flow retail stores channel sales manager, Region 2, and her son Chevonne leaf through a copy of the Daily Observer. “I have always made it a priority to ensure I make the time to read with Chevonne. This is our bonding moment. Before he could read I was reading to him. His father and I would deliberately choose books with cars, trucks andmotorcycles as we knew these were a form of excitement for him. It is key that my child is ableto read fluently and confidently as it helps with his self-expression, his learning capabilities andhow well he is able to articulate himself. Chevonne is very good at spelling and this is as a resultof him learning to read at a very early age.”
