The many moods of Joy…
Carlette DeLeon (right), author of #JoysOfParenting, shares a joyous moment with Tanya Batson-Savage, owner of publishing house Blouse and Skirt Books, an imprint of Blue Banyan Books, during the launch of the book held on July 27 at the Hope Zoo Tree House in St Andrew.
DeLeon has been making stops in North America to share her book, which is now available for sale on Amazon.
The first engagement, a literary lyme focused on ‘Image Consciousness: Repainting the Caribbean Imaginary’, featured DeLeon’s adult picture book alongside The Dark of the Sea by Imam Baksh (Guyana); I Got This by Andrene Bonner (Jamaica); and The Carnival Prince by Daniel O’Brien (Trinidad). The lyme took place in The Bronx on September 20.
On September 21, ‘Rum and Reasoning’ brought Baksh, Anton Nimblett (Trinidad), fellow Jamaican Olive Senior, and DeLeon together for a one-night literary paradise at South Oxford Space in Brooklyn.
“The diaspora is an important part of the audience we write for and want to read to. It’s therefore great to have Carlette, whose dynamic and hilarious book is really a game-changer for the kinds books coming out of Jamaica, as a part of these events where we get to meet and reason with our Caribbean people,” explained Batson-Savage.
The book will also be launched in Ottawa, Canada, at Parkdale United Church Memorial Hall on September 28.
“Carlette has delivered a book that will give comfort to inexperienced parents and help grandparents to remember their own #JoysOfParenting,” stated the Canada launch host, Margaret Tucker.
#JoysOfParenting is a curated adult picture book inspired by personal parenting experiences Carlette has had with her son over several years, which she shared on her Facebook page under the hashtag #joysofparenting.
