PCOS support with the hormone-balancing green smoothie

Monique Allen

FOR women with polycystic ovary syndrome ((PCOS), oral contraceptives are typically the first line of treatment. This is because birth control pills help many women’s irregular menstrual cycles and reduce the production of male hormones. They also help with skin issues.

When you use oral contraceptives your body has a harder time absorbing vitamins and minerals, which are essential for the health of your reproductive system, hormones, and liver function. Women frequently don’t know this truth.

Some of these nutrients include vitamin B, vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, and selenium.

Some of my clients’ nutrient-depletion symptoms are still evident a year after they stopped taking their pills.

In order to support your body and overall health while using birth control, you should give your body additional nutrients from whole foods.

Here is a straightforward smoothie recipe formula that you can drink every day to replenish your body’s nutrients and encourage the elimination of extra hormones.

Hormone-balancing smoothie formula

Step 1

Start with a liquid of your choice: non-dairy milk, water, or coconut water works well.

Step 2

Add a protein source: hemp seed protein powder is a great plant-based protein option that contains essential minerals like iron, magnesium, and zinc.

Step 3

Add leafy greens such as spinach, kale, or callaloo. Leafy vegetables are high in insoluble fibre, which aids in the passage of food through your digestive system and the removal of “bad” hormones.

Step 4

Add some frozen fruit like blueberries, strawberries, mango, or banana for extra flavour.

Step 5

Toss in some healthy fats to keep you satisfied (avocado, nut butter, walnuts, or cashews are delicious options.)

TIP — Top with moringa powder for Vitamin C, cinnamon for blood sugar regulation, and chia and flax seeds for omega fatty acids to add some extra nutrients.

Blend these until smooth, and you’ve got yourself a nutritious hormone-support smoothie in minutes!
