FROM a young girl with insatiable curiosity to a leading woman in food safety, Tresha-Gay Roper’s story inspires girls considering careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). As product scheduler/services excellence manager at The Best Dressed Chicken she’s a trailblazer in a field where women are under-represented, making up only 30 per cent of the global workforce.
Roper’s academic journey is a testament to the diverse paths available within STEM. With a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and Botany from The University of the West Indies, and an MBA in Service Excellence from University of Wales, she has seamlessly blended her love for science with business acumen. And her pursuit of knowledge hasn’t stopped there as she boasts over seven certifications and licences — including PECB-certified trainer status — underscoring the importance of continuous learning in this dynamic field.
In a traditionally male-dominated industry Roper is a champion for women supporting women. Inspired by her own mentors, she’s witnessed a positive shift in gender dynamics at The Best Dressed Chicken.
“More women are now in managerial roles, and their presence at the decision-making table has increased significantly,” she notes, highlighting the company’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone’s voice is valued.
