Unwritten rules for dating the Jamaican woman
IF it’s universally acknowledged that Jamaican men are a special kind of creature, what’s the verdict on Jamaican women, especially when it comes to dating, romance and relationships?
When we talk about “unwritten rules” governing behaviours in relationships, often the focus is on men and everything they do wrong, and everything they do, or don’t, or refuse to bring to the table. So, for example, last week we gave examples of how Jamaican men help set the tone for mutual understanding and respect in dating them specifically, highlighting how different it is to date them compared to anyone you’ve ever dated before.
But what if we addressed the rules men say they have come to learn over the years that govern the intricacies of dating Jamaican women?

Rule number one: You’re never number one. Women will deny this, but everything they do is transactional. Every move they make is determined by how they will benefit, now or in the future, so if you’re looking for true love, a wife, a mother for your children, just know that any woman you eventually choose, even if you think you’re the leader, she’s been scheming behind the scenes about what’s in it for her because she’s her first priority. And second is her mother, by the way.

Because of the way things are set up with women’s rights, it’s a fact that she will probably be smarter, wiser, more educated than you are, more savvy, and super independent. What you must know is, even if she’s hyper independent, this does not mean that she expects 50/50, or to meet you halfway. The number one rule in dating a woman like this is to know that she will still expect you to take charge, and pay for her ‘maintenance’, even if she drives a Benz and you drive a Probox.

That friend she says is just her guy friend is a guy who has made a move before but she’s not interested in him romantically — yet. Know, though, that she may not like him now, but he will be her fallback guy just in case she gets to a certain age and isn’t married yet, or has children yet. So, basically, you should be worried about her male friend.

If you yourself can look in the mirror and you’re not pleased with what you see, if all your life you’ve been the underdog, and if all you have going for you is your deep pockets, then yes, she’s lying when she says she loves you for your mind or your personality. Men are attracted to looks. Women are attracted to what they can get out of a man, that’s why Women’s Day is so popular — they are masters of celebrating themselves and their achievements.
