‘I want everyone to feel seen, heard, and made whole’

Dr Paulette Duhaney’s journey to empower through therapy

Marie Berbick

THERE are seasons in a woman’s life when the weight of the world feels too heavy to carry alone. Seasons marked by pain, disappointment, heartache, and unmet expectations. It is often in these very moments, that God positions someone with the courage to listen, help and walk alongside her. Dr Paulette Duhaney is one such woman.

Her smile is almost shy… but she’s far from it. She is Jamaican-born — a woman grounded deeply in the rhythms of faith and community, now living and serving in Hallandale Beach, Florida. But while the miles between Jamaica and Florida may be physical, her heart remains rooted in the same purpose she grew up with: to see people healed and restored.

Today, she is the founder and owner of Aevum Therapy & Consulting, LLC, a mental health practice dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s emotional and relational terrain with dignity, strength, and long-lasting transformation.

Dr Duhaney’s warm, yet powerful presence commands attention. Not in a loud way, but in the quiet calm way she listens, in the depth of her compassion, and in the faith-guided care she brings to every life she touches. It is this blend of personal empathy and professional excellence that makes her work with her blooming practice, Aevum Therapy & Consulting so compelling.

Her early years were shaped by cultural richness and spiritual grounding. Yet like many of the women she now walks with, she understands what it means to navigate life’s sharp edges. Her path would eventually lead her to the United States, where she pursued advanced education in mental health, culminating in her role today as a doctor of marriage and family therapy and a licensed mental health counsellor.

Her approach to therapy is deeply human, recognising that true healing encompasses mind, body, and spirit. It’s a philosophy that resonates with those who enter her office with heavy hearts and complex histories. This holistic understanding is the heartbeat of Aevum Therapy, her practice founded with the purpose of creating safe, transformative spaces where women and couples can confront their pain and step into renewal.

Located in the heart of Hallandale Beach, Aevum Therapy & Consulting, LLC is simply different. The approach to therapy is rooted in faith-filled, God-centred healing. There’s grace and genuine care that emanates from this beautiful, caring woman.

Dr Duhaney offers both in-person and telehealth sessions, making her approach accessible to a wide range of clients. Her work includes support for anxiety, grief, family conflict, relationship challenges, trauma, and life transitions — issues that reverberate through many households, especially among women juggling responsibilities, relationships, and personal growth.

What sets her apart is her belief that therapy should not be a sterile, clinical exercise, but a collaborative, empowering journey. She offers what many people carrying a burden crave but seldom find: a safe space to unpack their stories without judgement, stress without shame, and vulnerabilities without dismissal.

Her approach is both holistic and evidence-based — combining client-centred care with cognitive-behavioural and solution-focused strategies that honour each person’s lived experience.

For many clients, especially women who have long repressed their own needs in service of others, Dr Duhaney provides a new experience of healing, a place where faith and psychology intersect to foster resilience.

“It is no small thing when someone says, ‘I hear you’. Sometimes we just need someone to listen,” she says.

“Life can bring seasons of challenge, anxiety, family conflicts, and relationship issues that leave us weary,” she notes, echoing sentiments familiar to many women. “If you’re seeking a safe and compassionate space to process your concerns, strengthen your faith, and gain practical tools for daily living, I’m here to help.”

For those seeking support, Dr Duhaney’s practice stands with genuine compassion, clinical insight, and a deep understanding of the struggles individuals, couples and families face. And for every woman who has ever felt alone in her journey, this therapist’s voice offers assurance: You do not walk alone.
