BYD and Jamaica a perfect match
Neva Zhang, country manager of Caribbean and Central American Countries, BYD, thinks Jamaica and the Caribbean at large are perfect for her brand as she drew parallels between the philosophy of BYD, the goals of the region, and the benefits electric vehicles (EV) at the announcement event for the appointment of the ATL Automotive Group as BYD master dealers held on Monday, June 25 at the AC Hotel Kingston.
“We see that EV penetration is growing according to different markets, but the Caribbean is a perfect place for EVs. You have good climate. You have relatively small islands where the range of an EV is more than enough for the average user and also you have very good road conditions,” Zhang told the Jamaica Observer‘s weekly Auto magazine.
She went on to speak about the pro-environmental aims, explaining that EV with their zero emissions are perfect for a country so heavily invested in tourism and needing to maintain the natural beauty as to continue to attract visitors.
Zhang explained that BYD, as the world’s largest seller of EVs in 2022, hopes to transition the world to green mobility by providing safe and appealing solutions to reduce pollution from carbon emissions to address the issue of climate change.
In 2022, BYD officially stopped production of full combustion engined vehicles to focus on battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) as part of their Cool the Earth by 1 degree Celsius initiative.
Founded in 1995, BYD started with the research, development, and manufacture of rechargeable batteries and has developed solar panels, energy storage systems, and new energy vehicles (NEV). Over the past 28 years, BYD has grown into a company offering the total solutions for eMobility around the world, producing pure-electric buses, trucks, vans, and rail transit, as well as innovating total solutions for harvesting, storing, and generating renewable energy to support evolving charging infrastructures.
“It is the right decision to reach a strategic cooperation with ATL Automotive Group. Sustainability is integral to our brand’s philosophy. Our goal is to protect our planet and benefit future generations through green technologies,” said Zhang.
