Business notes — February 8, 2023

January traffic report

Sangster International Airport (SIA) is reporting a 68 per cent year-over-year growth from 267,600 terminal passengers to 448,400 terminal passengers for January. This performance is two per cent above the January 2020 figures of 445,800 passengers. Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) recorded a 60 per cent increase in air traffic from 91,500 passengers to 146,100 passengers for January. NMIA’s performance is below the January 2020 figures of 159,200 passengers.

Palace Amusement (1921) Company Limited was the best-performing stock for the month of January as it rose by 74 per cent from $1,477.72 to $2,573.62. ISP Finance Services Limited, Knutsford Express Services Limited, Consolidated Bakeries (Jamaica) Limited, Margaritaville (Turks) Limited (JMD shares), Regency Petroleum Company Limited, Paramount Trading (Jamaica) Limited and Dolphin Cove Limited were the other best-performing stocks in January.

Radio Jamaica Limited was the worst-performing stock for January as it declined by 17 per cent from $2.32 to $1.92. Barita Investments Limited, Sterling Investments Limited (USD shares), Mayberry Jamaican Equities Limited, Sygnus Real Estate Finance Limited, KLE Group Limited, Lumber Depot Limited, and Supreme Ventures Limited were the other big decliners in January.

Market sales & events

A director of JFP Limited sold 91,661 shares on December 22. Directors and senior officers of GraceKennedy Limited acquired 1,676,174 shares pursuant to the grant from the 2009 stock option plan on January 26. A connected party of Kingston Wharves Limited sold 7,500,000 shares at $33 for a consideration of $247.50 million on January 30. A senior manager of Barita Investments Limited acquired 328,750 shares on February 1 under the employee stock ownership plan. A connected party of Supreme Ventures Limited sold 18,852 shares on February 2 and 78,832 shares on February 3.

First Rock Real Estate Investments Limited repurchased 400,000 JMD shares and 400,000 USD shares on January 26 under its share buy-back programme. Eppley Caribbean Property Fund Limited – Value Fund repurchased 1,965 shares for $92,989.65 between January 24 to 27 under its share buy-back programme.

Leighton McKnight was appointed as a director to the board of JMMB Group Limited on January 26.

Chrevaughn Legister has been appointed to the role of manager of asset management at VM Wealth Management Limited on February 1.

Dr Sharma Taylor has been appointed the company secretary of Sagicor Select Funds Limited, Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited, and its subsidiaries effective February 1.

FR Century Holdings Limited has acquired a majority interest in Century 21 Heave Ho Properties Limited.

Indies Pharma Jamaica Limited’s 2022 audited financials have been delayed and should be published by February 10.

Productive Business Solutions Limited has declared a dividend of $4.9150685 on its 9.75 per cent preference shares to be paid on January 31 to shareholders on record as December 30. This payment totals $126.81 million.

Wisynco Group Limited has declared a dividend of $0.22 to be paid on March 3 to shareholders on record as of February 17. This payment totals $826.38 million.

Carreras Limited will consider a dividend payment at its board meeting on February 13 while CAC 2000 Limited will consider a dividend payment on March 9.
