Nutramix launches one-stop Farmacy
NEWPORT Mills Limited has launched a one-stop location known as Farmacy to improve access for farmers to a wide array of options for maintaining the well-being of their animals.
The location, which was launched under the Nutramix brand, is located at the Newport Mills head office at Myers Wharf Newport, with opening hours between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. Farmacy acts as a centralised location for farmers to source items such as essential medications, dairy equipment, and other necessary tools for their farms and animals. It also caters to livestock breeders, with semen available for cattle, goats, sheep, and pigs that is used to improve breeding programmes and bring about higher-yielding livestock.
“They want a ‘stop shop’ where they can purchase everything they need for their farms and animals. [Farmacy] is about servicing the sector and ensuring farmers use their time wisely and have what is needed to farm profitably,” said Livestock Support Manager Dr Gabrielle Young in the press release.
The Farmacy was registered in January and was a main feature of the 69th Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show. The location also serves as a way for Nutramix to coordinate with farmers across the island who have a prescription and need a particular medication to treat any health issue which may arise for farm animals. With more than 150 partner farm stores islandwide, certain medications can be sent across the island in a cold chain from where the farmer can do pickups. This is supported by a team of five veterinarians across the different parts of the island, which includes Dr Young.
“The advantage of the Farmacy is the availability of the field representatives, support staff, and vets who can assist the farmers in getting the right medications and items they need. We are not just selling a product; we are providing a service,” Dr Young added.
Newport Mills manufactures Nutramix and Front Runner horse feed, with some of the animal feed products exported to the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean. The latest move reaffirms the company’s commitment to farmers and the agricultural industry in Jamaica.
