St James tyre facility damaged by fire
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Fire of unknown origin damaged a container at the Boomerang Tyre facility in Montego Bay on Friday evening.
The container, which housed tyres, a compressor and other accessories, was damaged extensively following the blaze. The area served a variety of purposes, including wheel alignment and balancing of tyres.
The fire department reported that it received a call about 5:13 pm and responded with two units from the Montego Bay and Ironshore stations.
Upon arrival, they found the structure completely engulfed. Utilising two jets, they managed to bring the blaze under control before it could spread to the main building.
Loss is estimated in the millions, and it is uncertain if the building was insured.
Investigations continue in this matter.
This latest fire comes just a day after a warehouse housing custom goods was destroyed along River Bay Road in the parish. That loss was estimated at $50 million
