Fire triggers evacuation at COP30 venue in Brazil; Jamaican delegation safe
Delegates and observers have been ordered to evacuate the main venue in Belém, Brazil where crucial last-minute talks were being staged at the United Nations’ COP30.
A fire erupted at a pavilion inside the venue prompting panicked delegates to run for the exits.
Emergency crews rushed to try to put out the blaze as smokeengulfed the corridor.
Matthew Samuda, Jamaica’s minister with responsibility for the environment, who is leading the country’s team at the talks, told Observer Online that all members of Jamaica’s delegation are safe.
