Driver flees during police stop, passenger hit with gun charge
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A police stop took an unexpected turn on Monday when the driver of a Toyota Mark X fled on foot, leaving behind a passenger who was later charged after cops allegedly found a loaded pistol in his possession.
Charged is 28-year-old Mario Dobney, otherwise called “Prom Prom” of Hanover Street in Kingston.
Dobney is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
According to police reports, around 9:30 pm, cops were on patrol when they noticed a Toyota Mark X being driven in a manner that aroused their suspicion.
The lawmen signalled the driver to stop and, after complying, the driver reportedly exited the car and ran from the scene.
Dobney, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was reportedly searched by the officers. The search allegedly uncovered a Browning single-action pistol with a magazine attached containing two 9mm cartridges.
He was taken into custody and later charged.
His court date has not yet been finalised.
