Reggae Girlz thrash Dominica 18-0 in Concacaf Qualifiers
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz opened their Concacaf Women’s Qualifiers with a record 18-0 thrashing of Dominica at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on Saturday to take the lead in Group B on goal-difference.
Three players, Khadija ‘Bunny Shaw’ Shaw, Kalyssa Van Zanten and Jody Brown all scored hat tricks as Jamaica eclipsed the previous highest score in a World Cup Qualifier, a 14-0 beating of St Lucia in 2014 and 13-0 over Guadeloupe four years later.
In the opening game of the group, Nicaragua defeated Antigua and Barbuda 4-0 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in St John’s on Thursday.
On Saturday, Jamaica started scoring early, was up 4-0 after 10 minutes and scored often in the game leading 10-0 at half time with Shaw and Van Zanten both recording hat tricks.
With her trifecta in the first half, Shaw took her record tally to 60 goals for Jamaica.
Deneisha Blackwood and second half substitutes Natasha Thomas and Shaneil Buckley all scored doubles for Jamaica in the second half.
