St Elizabeth resident receives aid from Aubyn Foundation, requests additional support
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica —Shaneek Spooner, a mother of three from St Elizabeth, has been recouping from the impact of Hurricane Melissa, thanks to resilience as well as assistance from the Aubyn Foundation.
Spooner, who is a farmer, lost her entire roof as well as all of her crops, and livestock during the October 28 passage of the hurricane.
“He (Aubyn Henry, chairman of Aubyn Group) has been helping with water, food, clothing, and stuff like that. He also said that the roof repairs is in process,” she told Observer Online.
Spooner was one of the many Jamaicans who took to social media following the natural disaster to show how much it ravaged her and her family’s properties.
She is grateful for the help she has been receiving, so far, but welcomed any additional samaritans who are able to lend a hand.
“I am so grateful because a lot of people don’t have anywhere to stay, they don’t have a roof over their heads, they’re outside, and it must be uncomfortable not being in their own space,” the 35-year-old single mother said.
She added, “I just have to pick up myself, ask for some assistance, and try on my own, as well… Whatever necessity I get, I am grateful.”
