Victoria Brown Hanley’s funeral underway
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Grieving family and friends are now gathering at the Andrews Memorial United Church in Mandeville to bid farewell to Victoria Brown Hanley who died on October 16.

The blue casket bearing the 20-year-old University of the West Indies student’s remains was decorated with flowers inside the church.

An autopsy revealed that Brown Hanley died of strangulation.

Initial reports said Brown Hanley was alone in her room on the fourth floor of the George Alleyne Hall after her roommate left shortly after 1:00 am on October 16. When the roommate returned, sometime after 6:00 am, she reportedly saw Brown Hanley lying face-down with a scarf wrapped tightly around her neck. The roommate reportedly removed the scarf and summoned campus security.
A team from the Mona Police Post also responded and it was subsequently confirmed that Brown Hanley, of a Mandeville, Manchester address, was dead.
