Soldier charged with firearm offences
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — A member of the Jamaica Defence Force has been charged after allegedly firing shots in a public place.
Charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place is 30-year-old Rushane Brown, otherwise called ‘Shane’, of Comfort Hall, Manchester
Brown was held following an incident at an establishment in Roses Valley district, St Elizabeth.
Reports from the Balaclava police are that about 5:15 am, Brown was accosted by an off-duty police officer after he was observed discharging two rounds into the air from a pistol. A police team was summoned, and on their arrival, he was taken into custody.
He was subsequently charged after a question-and-answer interview.
His court date is being finalised.
