AJ fires Shots of Love
Veteran singer A J Brown officially released Shots of Love, his fifth album, at Mature Mondays in St Andrew on August 7.
The venue was adorned in the black, green and gold colours of Jamaica’s National Flag as patrons celebrated the country’s 61st anniversary of Independence.
Brown performed songs from the 16-song set as well as earlier solo hits and classic tracks by Third World, the Grammy-winning band for which he has been lead vocalist since 2014.
A long-time South Florida resident, he stressed the importance of breaking a new project back home.
“Jamaica is still the mecca for reggae music worldwide…that’s why most foreign artistes who decide to record and include reggae music on their albums try to capture the authenticity of the genre by working with established reggae stars, respected reggae musicians, or travel to Jamaica to do their recordings in Jamaican studios,” Brown told the Jamaica Observer. “Even though reggae music has transcended our Jamaican shores, launching a new reggae album in Jamaica is tantamount to getting a stamp of approval.”
In Love With Love and Dreaming were two of the songs from Shots of Love Brown performed on tracks. He also did well-received renditions of Third World’s monster hit, Now That We Found Love, and When You Love, his biggest solo hit.
Brown was preceded on stage by Empress Chai, Hezron, and Tamara B.
From St James, Brown started his career on the hotel circuit in his home parish and also did a stint in Las Vegas as a cabaret act. His hit songs also include Love People and My Father My Friend.
