Ini Kamoze’s Here Comes the Hotstepper returns to Billboard
Released in 1994, Here Comes the Hotstepper, the chart-topping album by reggae artiste Ini Kamoze, returns to the Billboard Reggae Albums chart at #10.
The album, which contains the hit multi-platinum selling single of the same name, also has re-recordings of previous releases.
The 12-track set was released by Sony Music and it topped the Billboard Reggae Albums chart for multiple weeks in 1995.
Among the musicians who worked on the Sly and Robbie-produced album are Dean Fraser, Willie Lindo, Richard Dunn, and Robbie Lyn.
The single Here Comes the Hotstepper topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks in December 1994.
The song has so far sold more than 2.2 million copies globally and has been certified platinum in the United States and the United Kingdom. It also topped charts in Zimbabwe, Denmark and New Zealand.
Still on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, Bob Marley and the Wailers clock 174 non-consecutive weeks in the #1 spot with Legend.
Holding down the #2 spot again is Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy, while Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection remains at #3.
Greatest Hits by UB40 is at #4, while Stick Figure has the next three positions, #5, #6, #7, with World on Fire, Wisdom and Set in Stone, respectively.
Backyard Sessions: Malibu Edition by Iration and Live at Red Rocks by Rebelution are #8 and #9.
Gospel artiste Jermaine Edwards loses steam on the charts, as It’s a Beautiful Day exits the gospel charts only to remain at #15 on the Gospel Digital Song Sales chart. It peaked at #2 some 17 weeks ago.
Shenseea makes gains in Germany as her latest single Curious enters the urban chart at #25.
The song, which is produced by London on Da Track, Fred Ball and BEAM, was released by Rich Immigrants/Interscope in April.
The official video for Curious has so far racked up more than 4.1 million views on YouTube.
On the South Florida Reggae chart, Highway to Heaven by Carlene Davis clocks its third week in the #1 spot.
This week’s new entries are Doctor’s Orders by Hopeton Lindo (#23) and So Good by Dotti Montijo (#25).
Black is a Colour by Robert Ffrench takes over the #1 spot on the New York Reggae chart.
Dancehall History by Lt Stitchie (#28), Saving Mother Earth by Fancy D (#29) and Hooked on You by Mezmo (#30) are new entries.
There’s a new #1 song on the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart. Single Girl Blues by Jamaican singer Blk Orchid and Empress Divine moves into pole position.
Meanwhile, Swept Away by Andrae Duhaney moves into the #6, Feeling the Pain by Tasha T is #8 and My Turn by Tony Anthony is at #5.
