Moms feted ahead of Mother’s Day

Great music and non-stop dancing were a fraction of the package offered at Smirnoff Mother’s Day Party at Brew’d Awakening on 130 Old Hope Road in St Andrew last Saturday.

Both young and the young-at-heart were out in their numbers to enjoy the rich quality coffee from Brew’d Awakening that filled the air. There was also sumptuous food provided by Brew’d Awakening, Tastee, and Rainforest. Bubbling music and an overall positive energy kept patrons thoroughly entertained.

One of the promoters of the event, Jermaine Harvey, explained that a pre-Mother’s Day event was needed to show appreciation and gratitude for the maternal figures in our lives.

“We had to show appreciation for our mothers and it’s not going to be today, but also throughout the week. One of our sponsors, Brew’d Awakening, will be treating our mothers throughout the week up to Mother’s Day. Our mothers deserve such loyal treatment: they carry us for nine agonising months, suffer through our painful and dramatic entrance in to the world, then commit the rest of their lives to put our needs first,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Natalie Robinson and Venice Blackburn are elated at the acknowledgment.

Natalie Robinson, who is a mother, was grateful to be a part of the pre-Mother’s Day event.

“My friend, Venice, and I were actually going to Brew’d Awakening and we found out that it was closed. We heard all these wonderful Mother’s Day songs that drew our attention to the event. When we realised it was a Mother’s Day event, we felt excited and appreciated. I think they did a great job and if it was advertised more, there would be more mothers here to add to the crowd,” she said.

Another mother, Vanessa Pinzon, who is visiting from Florida, said that she booked her ticket as soon as she heard of the event.

“The promoter is my friend so as soon as he told me about the event I booked my ticket the next day and now I’m here in Jamaica. I’m a proud mother of two beautiful children and the event made me feel really appreciated to be a parent,”she said.

Harvey added that he and his team hopes to make the event an annual one.

“We are in dialogue with our sponsors to make it an annual event. Currently, we are just going with the flow. We are just enjoying the opening of the industry as we are not sure if there will be a next shutdown by the Government. If it allows us to do it next year then we are all-in,” he said.
