Sone G elated at ‘Sterling’ nod
Gospel artiste Cecil “Sone G” Wilson is one of four artistes vying for the Breakout Sensation of The Year prize at this year’s Sterling Gospel Awards.
“It’s a tremendous honour. It’s also a testament to all my supporters and friends who are constantly requesting the music. It’s great man, love it. I love what’s happening with the Sterling Awards,” he told the Jamaica Observer‘s Splash.
The other nominees in the category are Oshane McHugh, Prince Saj, and Victor Brown. The award, which is in its sixth year, will be held on October 8 at The Ambassadors on Hagley Park Road in Kingston.
According to the Clarendon College past student, the nomination came as a complete surprise. He is hoping for the best on the big night.
“Honestly, it’s a blessing just to be considered. It means the extensive work that my team has put in is producing fruit. That being said, it would be a blessing to receive the award,” he added.
Sone G also said that music has always appealed to him, which is why he decided to pursue it professionally.
“I think once you are gifted you should express yourself using said gifts and talents. The Father blessed me with many talents and I just want to use them for his benefit and to bring about positivity and encouragement. That being said, I grew up in a family that owned and operated a sound system called Turbo Sonic. I was exposed to the music from early and seeing top artists of the 90s around constantly music became a real to me, So I just pursued it,” he said.
The singer is currently promoting the single Spirit A Move released on September 3, 2021. It was produced by DJ Shane of Heavenly Waves Production.
“My inspiration comes from my love for the Creator and wanting to share his truth. Nothing is as good as knowing that the God of the universe is a friend. My experience growing up as a child is a big part of what gets me going musically, the passion that comes out is a product of what was instilled from way back then,” the artiste explained.
Released in November 2021, the accompanying music video was directed by the artiste himself, who also took on the roles of lead producer, cinematographer and set design artist. Sergio Cavalieri was on board as the lead camera operator for the shoot, which was done in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Sone G aspires to collaborate with Tye Tribbett and Rhoda Isabella.
