Trevelle Clarke Whyne inspires with Talk About Mi God

GOSPEL recording artiste Trevelle Clarke Whyne said when she recorded the song Talk About Mi God, she had one thing in mind — to inspire others, especially those who hadn’t given their lives to God.

“I wanted to convey to the unsaved that they need to know God. He is a God who is able to keep us from falling into sin, and my life is a testament of that. I also extended an invitation in the song to people to come to Christ. It won’t be an easy journey but God will help us through the journey,” Clarke Whyne shared in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.

Talk About Mi God was released on September 20. It was recorded by AWM Productions – Andre Wisdom. Dexter Johnson Jr of Crosslinks Production is credited as producer, while mixing and mastering was done by Odane Mais from Danekeyzie Music. Supporting vocals were done by Jovane Blagrove.

Clarke Whyne explained the inspiration behind Talk About Mi God.

“I had gotten this track from my manager Dexter Johnson Jr. When I listened to it at first this is definitely not the usual type of music I would do. Nevertheless, it was summer 2022 and I was on vacation at my brother’s house in Orlando, and I went to have some quiet time with the Lord and with the track. While listening, I considered who God is and how He redeemed me from a life of constantly messing up. With that thought process, I was inspired to pen the lyrics to Talk about mi God.

Since its release, Talk About Mi God has been enjoying rotation on gospel radio stations locally and regionally.

“People have shown great love for the track. Since the video was released it has been creating waves. I’ve seen various gospel DJs reaching out to me. I was most shocked when even a gospel DJ from Trinidad reached out to express his liking for the song. The constant word is that “the song is buzzy” and the lyrics are “potent”, Clarke Whyne related.

Clarke Whyne, who is an educator by profession, began her solo journey in gospel music about five years ago.

“I would say I officially started my gospel music career in 2018. Prior to that, I was a part of a gospel entity around 2010 called Da’Conquest, as a supporting vocalist. In 2018 Jah Noi, another artiste, was my student at Edna Manley and he mentioned being managed by Dexter Johnson. I reached out to him to manage me and he took a while to answer. He eventually answered with a yes and, over time, being managed by Dexter through Imperium Gospel Ltd I’ve been doing gospel for the past five years,” shared Clarke Whyne.

She also gave some insight into her journey.

“My journey has been one that has opened my eyes to God’s goodness. I’ve met so many destiny helpers on this journey — from Jay-Vis McIntosh, Bloozick Filmworks, SG Productions, among others. Not to mention the New Whyne Band, which is a beautiful set of musicians and singers that are just beautifully committed to the ministry even when I don’t feel like it,” Clarke Whyne disclosed.

Clarke Whyne made her recording debut three years ago with the song Your Presence, which was produced by Jay-Vis McIntosh of Pioneer Music. Her follow-up single, In Everything Give Thanks, was also produced by the label. That song was inspired by a miscarriage that she suffered in 2020.

According to Clarke Whyne, after she recorded her debut single, several opportunities in gospel music began to open up for her.

“I would probably say I was on a few more small, intimate worship events after Your Presence was released. This year has been one of the most profound periods in my music ministry though, and I believe that is one of the reasons so many more people were now anticipating what my next single would be,” she said.

Aside from Your Presence, Clarke Whyne is known within the gospel community for her interpretations of medleys of songs by Chevelle Franklyn including I Will Call Upon the Lord, Never Lost a Battle, God is, and Firm Foundation.

Clarke Whyne is originally from St Ann. After completing high school education at Westwood High she studied at The Mico University College, Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts, as well as The University of the West Indies (Mona).
