Duke — the pick in Kaz Hoshay Trophy feature

The $1.25-million Kaz Hoshay Trophy is the lone feature event on tomorrow’s 10-race programme. The three-year-old and upward Overnight Allowance contest has attracted a field of 14 runners going over the distance of 6 furlongs (1,200m).

Below, the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a close look at each runner and their chances of winning.

1. LABAN: (6 b h by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – Has finished out of the frame in his last seven outings. Laban takes a drop in class here, and given his back class, he should have a much better race against these. Note: Tongue-tie off.

2. PRESS CONFERENCE: (5 ch g by Twilight Time – Lady Shankari) – Finished a good second behind the talented Canadian-bred American Tap in the Nigel B Nunes Memorial Cup over the straight on October 21. Press Conference also goes well around the bend and based on his last effort, he should once again be in the thick of things.

3. ALEXA’S DREAM: (5 ch m by Berlino Di Tiger – Alexa’s Song) – Poor efforts at the races in her last three runs. Alexa’s Dream is going to be left behind in this one again.

4. CURLIN’S AFFAIR: (5 ch h by Perfect Curlin – Nuclear Affair) – Has been thereabouts in his races. Curlin’s Affair is expected to go home earning in this one. Note: Blinkers off.

5. RACE CAR (USA): (6 gr/rn h by Race Day – McDuffie) – Was expected to figure in the recent Nigel B Nunes Memorial Trophy over the straight but finished down the track behind American Tap. Race Car is much better than as evidenced in his previous runs, so he should put in a much better here.

6. NAKAMURA: (5 dkb g by Northern Giant – Geisha’s Glory) – Has no realistic chance of winning here.

7. MADELYN’S SUNSHINE (USA): (4 dkb/br f by Joe’s Son Joey – Madelyn’s Finest) – Came off a five-month break to finish seventh by some 8 ½ lengths behind American Tap and Press Conference over the straight on October 21. With that run under her girth, Madelyn’s Sunshine is ready to put in a good effort and that should be good enough to challenge for top honours here.

8. PRINCE SANJAY: (4 ch c by Emperor Hall – Dalla Fifty) – Is going to find the going tough here.

9. SUPER DUPER: (5 b m by Natural Selection – Patra) – Should not trouble the main principals here.

10. KP CHOICE: (4 b c by Nasheet – Drop Them) – Did extremely well to reach this level. KP Choice is not going to be disgraced on his first attempt up in grade.

11. BIG JULE: (5 b h by Tapizar – Blues In The Grass) – Needs more time.

12. EL PROFESOR: (8 b g by Casual Trick – The Principal) – Only to be taken on trust.

13. DUKE: (7 gr h by Casual Trick – Lady McBeth) – Has two runs already since stepping down to this level without any success. Duke should have no excuses here under these conditions to produce a winning run.

14. HOIST THE MAST: (5 ch m by Blue Pepsi Lodge – Opulent) – hard to fancy.
