Two foreigners arrive for lucrative Mouttet Mile
The two foreigners who have arrived for the second staging of the 2023 Mouttet Mile, according to Solomon Sharpe, executive chairman of Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), will boost the enthusiasm, spectator interest, and competition to new heights.
A letter of intent was submitted for the first entrant, Easy as ABC, owned by Jeremy Rachpaul and trained by Donovan Hutchinson.
Easy as ABC, who was foaled on February 19, 2020, in Kentucky, is a three-year-old bay colt bred by Arrogate out of the Marchfield mare Belle Chloe.
The second entrant, Propellant, who was foaled on March 30, 2020, also in Kentucky, is owned by Chevan Maharaj and trained by Anthony Nunes.
Propellant is a three-year-old bay colt bred by Into Mischief out of the Quality Road mare Quality Way.
“First, let us thank the owners for having the confidence in live racing at Caymanas Park, and making the decision to import these well-bred horses for the Mouttet Mile.
“This undoubtedly will lift the energy, fan interest, and competition to new heights,” Sharpe told the Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.
Easy as ABC has two career victories from nine starts and lifetime earnings of US$46,320. His victories have both come at Gulfstream Park.
On December 22, 2022, Easy as ABC comfortably overcame competitors in a two-year-old maiden claiming race over six-and-a-half furlongs by 9 1/4 lengths in a time of 1:20.4.
His second victory came in a Starter Optional Claiming event over one mile and one-sixteenth in 1:44.3 on January 27 of this year.
According to connections, Easy as ABC will make his debut on local soil on September 23 in a 6-furlong (1,200m) race.
Propellant has raced seven times in his career, finishing second once and third twice, earning a total of US$13,705. Propellant has races at Remington Park, Oakland Park, and Gulfstream Park.
Propellant last competed on July 14 at Gulfstream Park, where he finished third in a maiden claiming event over one mile and 70 yards.
The Mouttet Mile (invitational), a Grade One event for three-year-olds and upwards going a mile (1,600m), will carry a purse of US$150,000 ($22,500,000), which is the richest single purse event in the English-speaking Caribbean.
The Mouttet Mile is set to be contested on December 2.
The following are the racing conditions for the Mouttet Mile that apply to foreigners:
The maximum field is 16.
12 positions will be reserved for horses domiciled in Jamaica since January 1, 2023
4 positions will be reserved for horses not domiciled in Jamaica since January 1, 2023.
Owners/trainers MUST provide a letter of intent to participate to the Racing Secretary) by September 30, 2023.
The Past Performances of the horse/s must also be submitted by September 30, 2023.
Horses will be selected on a first come, first serve basis.
The Highest year-to-date earnings (USD)inclusive of earnings in Jamaica will also be used in the selection process. (January 1,2023 – November 30,2023).
(c) If there are no entrants from (b)above, the remaining positions will be filled by horses domiciled in Jamaica since January 1, 2023.
(d) All horses(a)&(c) will be selected based on the highest year-to-date earnings in Jamaica.(January 1, 2023 – November 30, 2023)
(e) Earnings in Races other than Graded, Graded/Open Allowance, Open Allowance, Overnight Allowance &/or Restricted Stakes are NOT CONSIDERED.

Imported – Horses not foaled in Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad & Tobago.
